NEWS: END OF SEASON U13 2004 U13
End of season summary Sept 2004 Last
January found us in the unique position of having to say ‘Sorry not this
time ‘ to the 18 girls who were not among the named squad….. girls
cricket in Bucks is making real
progress. Our
squad of 17, U13s played 8
league matches winning four & finishing
mid-way in the SE League, Pool B. We were disappointing in our
games against Herts never quite hitting our proper form. Kent A , the eventual winners, were in a class of their own,
we were well beaten the first time we played them & in the second
match, held them for a while, but their superior batting won the day.Two
wins against Kent B & Hants helped us to finish in the middle of our
league for the second year. Alex
was our top bowler, opening the bowling in all the matches she played. We
looked to her to put the pressure on from the start. Ros took the batting
award for the way she built important partnerships, & clocked up a PB
of 38 n.o. v
Leicester. While at the other end Sadie was making her maiden 50. For
the first time there was a 9 county tournament organised by Herts. Playing
8 a side matches, Bucks came
out 4th . Livvy, Alice Mac & Lorna impressed with the bat
as did Alex with her bowling, taking 6 wickets in the day. Carys had a
difficult job captaining so many matches & setting the fields, but she
did a splendid job & managed to give everybody a chance in the action.
In our Bucks Fest this year Roger
organised our own 8 aside county
tournament for U13 & U12s as well as the normal U15 tournament.
So Berks & Oxon
joined Bucks U13 &12s at Marlow…..batters ruled the day… Tasha, Alex, Hannah, Immy &
Carys were all amongst the runs & for the U12s Amy, Alice Mac , Lorna & Sabah
too. Sabah’s
bowling also impressed with 4
wickets. The last match of the day, the
decider for the tourney was Bucks U13 v Berks… yet again,… a tense
affair that swung either way, but was finally settled with 2 balls to
spare….. Bucks U13 the
winners. This season was also the first
time we had fielded an U12 team, they had a couple of 20 over, hard ball
matches. Losing to Oxford & beating Berks proved a valuable experience
for 9 girls who had the chance to play their first county match. Colwall
Cricket Festival, a residential
festival was a NEW opportunity for
the squad of12 girls from the U13s. Spending
4 days in the magnificent surroundings of Malvern College &
playing cricket all day was a
valuable
experience for us all. Our
squad had net practice &
training every morning then a 30-40 over
match to follow. We beat Herefordshire then lost to
Warwickshire, & on the last day beat Leicestershire. Teams from
Bath & Gwent. were there as well.
This
was a
festival of cricket and so
there were no overall winners but we worked it out we must have
been =3rd. For
her fantastic performance behind the stumps & for smiting
more than 80 spectacular runs at Colwall,
we awarded Livvy the trophy for the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Immy,
with her consistent bowling, determined approach to batting & her
great spirit in the field was just made for our ‘All Rounders Award’. Alice
Mac was our ‘Best newcomer’ notable for her enthusiasm, sharp fielding
& penetrative bowling. & Sadie the ‘Most improved player’ had
moved from 12th to her ‘essential’ role, whether
bowling, fielding or opening the batting! Hannah received the Managers Medal for her mean bowling at first change & keeping everyone on their toes in the field. But the ‘Outstanding contribution for the season’ went to Captain Carys, who finished off her four years as an U13 player, guiding the team through a momentous season. Best wishes to the nine girls who will be moving into the U15… may you have even more success there.
