DISTRICT COUNCIL
CHAIRMAN’S
Under 14 Girls CRICKET TOURNAMENT
Thursday 23rd
June at Chesham Bois Cricket Club
This
event was first staged by Chesham Bois Cricket Club, in conjunction with
Chiltern District Council in 2002 and the relaxed day of girls cricket
was a huge success. This summer, once again there were 6 teams
taking part, each team played 5 matches of pairs cricket, on one of
those scorching hot summer
days, that has everyone searching out the shade. Holmer
Green School took part for the first time, this year, and they were joined by Chesham Park, Amersham School,
Chesham HS (2 teams), Dr Challoners, and
an All Stars team. The last matches in the round robin saw two
previously unbeaten teams face each other. Chesham High B took on cup
holders, Dr Challoners, in
a tight contest. Steady bowling & sharp fielding from Chesham HS
kept Challoners to
240 for their first 3 pairs but Alex & Natalie put on 23 in the last
2 overs. The Challoners attack made the going tough for their local
rivals, with wickets falling at regular intervals.
The target was just too daunting, as another wicket, with its
consequent loss off 5 runs in the last over, confirmed Chesham total at
15 runs short & Dr Challoners took the cup for the third year. Many thanks
to Chiltern District Council who sponsored the event, with hard working
Georgina O'Dell acting as liason. Also thanks to Ian Gomm and his
fellow umpires who did such a stirling job, helping the event to
run smoothly. Councillor
Jeremy Banham, the chair of the District Council presented certificates
to all the girls & the cup to Dr Challoners….. and that concluded
a great summer day out.
