NEWS: Dec 03

Hello everyone and as we look forward to Christmas, Tina and I would like to keep you up to date with cricket news for both U13s and U15s. In September the U15s played in an indoor tournament at Edgbaston and after a slow start they began to play as we know they can! Finishing 7th out of 8 doesn’t sound great but we saw some very good individual performances!

Winter coaching dates are in U13 fixtures section. Development sessions have been organized for girls from last years U13 squad and newcomers too. We will be inviting 15-17 girls to play in 2004 U13 squad. Coaching sessions for U13s will continue to be run by Paul, Roger and Tina with other help as needed. The U15s will continue with Paul, Lee and Eileen. Sessions towards the end of the winter will focus on match situations. In the past 2 months we have been running small group coaching sessions (4) for selected U13s and U15s and they have been helpful for both the coaches and the girls. There have been opportunities to improve on a variety of skills.

We also introduced some activities for the girls to broaden their cricket knowledge eg cricket terminology, fielding positions and game situations. This is important if they are to understand and get more fun out of the game they are playing! All the girls need to consider their safety whilst playing and avoid getting hurt whilst batting.

We continue to supply helmets for their use but eventually these should be purchased once those heads can’t get any bigger! Thigh or arm guards are not expensive and could save the bruises. Could be some good ideas for Xmas presents! I have Santa’s address!

Tina is organizing the schools U13s and U15s indoor competitions which will start in the New Year and will be keenly fought. 8 schools in U15s & 13 in U13 age group have signed up so far! The winner of the U15 competition represents Bucks in the Regional Finals on Saturday 21st Feb.

A reminder re the Hook Festival from Aug 2-6th 2004. Tina will not be going next year so I need a helper! Without support we will not be able to take a team. Please get in touch to discuss further. A week away from home, no housework or cooking only a gaggle of girls to look after! Sound tempting? The U13s have the chance to play in a festival at Colwall, near Great Malvern from 10-13 August. Travelling on the Monday and with three 30 over matches on the next three days. Please let Tina know if you are interested. No more for now, just to wish you all a very Happy Christmas. Eileen and Tina.
