NEWS: Autumn 03

Bucks Girls Cricket Autumn Newsletter 2003.

Hello everyone and welcome back after your summer holidays.

I thought it would be an opportune time to let you know what is in store for our autumn cricket programme.

Dates for your diary

We will be holding our end of season presentation of awards and bbq on Friday 26th September at Winchmore Hill cc 7pm. Please bring food to be cooked, plates and cutlery. If we could have any offers of salads and desserts that would be most welcome. Let Eileen know.

Sunday 28th September The U15s have been invited to play in an 8 a side indoor county cricket competition at Edgbaston on Sunday 28th September. Details to follow.

The ECB U15s indoor competition open to schools and clubs will also be competed hard for after the excellent effort by Dr Challoners High School (representing Bucks) in reaching the regional final this year and just losing out in a bowl out for a place in the national final at Lords. Bucks qualifying tournaments for schools & clubs will be organised by Tina during the Autumn & Spring Terms. Highcrest School, High Wycombe are Bucks U13 2003 champions & Dr Challoners are U15 Champs There will be an U13 & U15 tournament again in 2004. So ask your PE teacher whether she is entering a team. details of dates etc will be out soon.

Achievements in 2003 Summer Season will be celebrated on 26th September but we would like to take this early opportunity to thank Rod McKenzie for all his help and encouragement as match coach with U15 team, and also Roger Webster for his invaluable assistance with U13 team. It is their efforts which have helped to ensure 2003 was a great step forward in the progress of Bucks girls cricket. But more about that on 26th………………….

Plans for 2004

So where do we go from here?

We recognize that we must look to giving the girls further opportunities to play cricket and we as a county must plan ahead.

We foresee that if Bucks is unable to provide cricket for the older girls then they will look to other counties to provide this.

A lot of time and effort has been put into the already existing structure in Bucks, so we do not wish to see that discarded by the girls in preference for another county. We have already made plans for the development of a Bucks U17 side from 2004, and provision has been made in the winter coaching schedule 2003-4. This is the logical way forward but to do this means several issues must be thought through.

Parents will also need to consider whether they would be prepared to help with their daughter’s cricketing progress and become involved in the organisation and management of such a team. The current managers ( Eileen and Tina) are committed to the U13s/15s, but they will be able to give support to whoever takes on this commitment.

At the moment we do not know whether both U15 and U17 matches will be played on the same weekend. Hopefully they will not clash, however the U15s who are interested in playing for the older age group, as well, may have to commit to perhaps playing 2 matches on a weekend, one for the U15s and the other for the U17s. Fixtures are set by the ECB.

I would be grateful if there are offers of help or queries, would you contact me prior to the awards evening, so that we can discuss it more fully.

Autumn/Winter coaching. This is still in its planning stage and details will be given out shortly. We are hoping to arrange some individual & some district coaching before Christmas & then, as last year, full squad training will start in the New Year.

Finally thanks to all of you for your continuing support and please let me know if you are coming to the awards evening. See you all there, hopefully!

Eileen Powell U15 manager.

Tina Turner U13 manager

September 2003.
