Living Area

Return to Home Front

This is the living area. When I first bought this place, I kind of set it up the way I saw this and another townhouse unit set up. With a couch bisecting the main floor area dividing the area very clearly into two spaces.

I didn't really like the layout very much. One corner where I had a recliner was mostly unused. The path between the two areas was too constricted. And the open space by the sliding glass doors to the patio was really unused, though it was convenient for a Christmas tree.

So now I have the couch across the patio sliding glass doors with a narrow path to reach the doors. This also allows Mister to store toys here without just having a large pile of toys as we used to have by the dining area window. Plus, the fire place is more the center of attention rather than the TV, which is placed in the corner now. One thing I've never gotten and don't want is a coffee table in front of the couch. I have a relatively small place and a coffee table would destroy the open area I have. I have a table and a stand on either side of the couch to set food and drinks when needed. And besides, a coffee table can just devolve into a flat surface to dump stuff. So no coffee table.

Art work here is limited. One wall is taken up with the patio door. Another with the fire place and mirror over the fire place. I plan to spruce up the fire place and equip it with an actual mantle. I may even replace the mirror with some piece of art work. Actually, I'd like the Philadelphia piece in the main living area entry here if I did that.

Anyway, the south wall is the only real space to hang anything right now. I have a relatively large print I purchased at the Ann Arbor art fair (yes I know there are several--four?--separate ones). It hangs over the stereo stand which in turn is flanked by book shelves. One has a sailing ship on it and the other has an old fashioned mantle clock on it. The actual print is of San Francisco Bay and was painted by someone named Kaspin. I really like the colors:

From here you can return to the main living area entry way.
