THE DIGNIFIED RANT

My Art Tour

Half Bath

Return to The Dignified Rant

Return to Home Front

This is a small room--a half bath. Which means you can't take a bath.

But it does have artistic touches of a sort even aside from the bar of soap with musical notes embedded in it.

Let's see, first we have a picture of the Battle of Breeds Hill. That's Bunker Hill for you of shallow American history knowledge. Ok, that was out of bounds. Sorry.

Anyway, it is a black and white plate taken from a book that I sacrificed just for the plate. The rows of British soldiers advancing in three ranks is pretty fascintating. War has begun. We can see some bodies lying about. But the even ranks march with bayonet-tipped muskets at shoulder arms--pointing harmlessy straight up. One would hardly know that a war of eight years was beginning:

We also have a picture of the American flagship of our War of 1812 Lake Erie squadron Niagara up on blocks at Erie, Pennsylvania. This is just a postcard picked up at Put-In Bay. I wrote an encyclopedia article about Oliver Hazard Perry in Historic World Leaders that naturally featured the Battle of Lake Erie:

Finally, we have a small print of an antique map that I bought in a frame. I love maps and old maps are cool as heck. It is "A New and Accvrat Map of the World" dated 1651:

That's it for this room. Let's walk to the hallway after freshening up, shall we? (And please note, I would have left you to your own devices in the half bath and not joined you as this language might imply. The door locks if it makes you feel better. From the hall we can move into the main first floor areas. Or you may go back to the enry to head upstairs.
