at Manton's greenhouse on Blythwood Road, opposite Blyth Hill Road, looking for polywogs in the sunken containers where they kept goldfish
being stung by nettles growing beside the ponds for the first time
finding that jewel weed which grew close by would soothe the stinging
skating after school and at night and being asked to skate "by a boy!"
taking fruit baskets to the farm where Blyth Hill and Blythdale are to-day.
in grade 8, being in charge of the office and answering the phone when the principal's assistant was teaching the class
walking to and from John Fisher for Home Ec. with Miss Yendle
remembering when one of the boys from our class split his pants on the way to John Fisher and had to come to the Home Ec. room for a needle and thread. Boy did we laugh.
Collecting wild flowers in the Gardland's Wood where Glenallan is to-day
sliding down the ice slides on the hill on the south side of the school
in grade four, going on a class picnic to Sunnybrook Park before the hospital was built and the boys swimming in the creek
having the teacher walk home with me for lunch at my house once each year.
filling ditty bags
gathering coat hangers, cigarette foil, toothpaste tubes, etc. for scrap drives during the war
collecting pennies which were placed side by side along the halls, up the stairs and across the second floor and down till they met in the front hall
celebrating the end of the war with flags and a day off school
meeting wonderful children, many of whom became life-long friends
As a teacher:
preparing for, and singing Christmas Carols
teaching music and art - fun!
teaching Phys-Ed and doing yard duty - ugh!
seeing the look of amazement on Bob Elgie's face when he put together the sounds of the letters to make words
enjoying the wonderful play, written, costumed and acted by Kathy Orr and her friends, and presented in an assembly.
the joy every day of seeing a child "get it"
being sad in June thinking there would never be another such a great group of children, but there always was

Being pleased by children had many of the same experiences I had.
Anyone who has not attended Blythwood cannot imagine what a close bond there was between children, parents and teachers. We were truly the "Blythwood Family".
