Memories of Blythwood

Marilyn (Loree) Pidgeon, Class of '46

I have wonderful memories of myself and my two sisters, Barbara and Carole, attending Blythwood School. The School and community affairs of the school were our whole life, during our Junior years. Our mother, Violet Loree, who is still alive and well, was a very active member of the Home and School Association.

Some of my vivid memories are -

  • Those wonderful teachers - Miss McQueen, Miss Heddle, Miss Reynolds, Miss Dukelow, Miss Parker, Miss Mae, Mr. Freestone, Mr. Davidge and our wonderful Principals Mr. Pollard and Mr. Fallis.
  • My wet tongue, on a cold winter morning, sticking to the iron railing on the stairs to the Kindergarten door.
  • Friday morning assemblies, led by the students - remember the white "Hymn Cards" - and the great Hymn singing.
  • Navy blue tunics, white blouses, long lisle stockings, and navy bloomers. We were all so proud to wear our school crest front and centre on our tunics - double green and gold.
  • Baseball at the diamond before school, lunch time, and recess. How our mothers hated when we fell, put holes in our stocking and dirtied our tunics.
  • After all these years, these memories are still fresh in my mind. I have many pictures and memorabilia, even my Bronze and Silver Metals for excellent (?) behavior and attendance. Since I now live in West Vancouver, BC. and Vernon, BC. it was not convenient to send these items to you. I wish you all a grand Reunion and send greetings to all my classmates.
