This copy of The Tomlinson Family Record was copied from a transcription of the original manuscript made in 1976 by Nila Defibaugh. Six 'pen drawings' are referred to in the manuscript. Unfortunately, four of these 'pen drawings' are unavailable. Two were obtained from a copy of a manuscript on the Heath Family and inserted in this document. The manuscript has been updated with documentation from marriage and cemetery records. The documentation is in italics below each family paragraph.

Below is the preface from the 1976 copy of The Tomlinson Family Record.

Because of the great interest in the Nathan W. Tomlinson family history by direct descendants, I obtained the only known original history of the family written in manuscript by S. W. Heath in 1905. After many hours of typing, duplicating and assembling, I prepared thirty-five copies of the history (71 typewritten pages) for interested relatives. I had them ready for the fifty-first annual reunion of the family held August 1, 1976 at Beulah Park in Alexandria, Indiana. If necessary, more copies can be made from the duplicating masters within the next year.

There was no attempt to change or correct sentence structure, nor was there much time spent on proofreading the master copies. No doubt many typographical errors will be found, but it will be easy to read, and each of the original Nathan W. Tomlinson family and their children, may have a copy if they so desire.

The original manuscript, written over seventy years ago, with pen and ink and in longhand, is quite fragile and is becoming quite faded. Whoever should acquire the original manuscript from its present owner, should treasure it and keep it in the Tomlinson family (preferably one carrying the Tomlinson name with offspring.)

It is the hope of this typist that the history of our family can be brought up to date within the next few years, and that each family having a copy will continue with their own family history for years to come.
