The TNT original movie, Witchblade, based off the comic book of the same name. TNT is considered to be one of the great companies when it comes to TV movies. TNT's decision of creating Witchblade brought on skepticism among fans, but TNT has never really made a bad TV movie, until now. When TNT made the movie "Purgatory", I thought it was good as well as most of their films, in various genres. If Witchblade was made by Showtime or HBO, then that would be all right. TNT however, came under the impression that the more special effects there are the more popular the movie will be. Some special effects are similar to Blade, the Matrix and every other special effects of the 90's. Don't get me wrong, I love special effects, but at least stretch it out to a period longer than 2 seconds and were introduced by a strobe light, which seemed to never end.

The acting was also disappointing. Here you have Linda Hamilton... oh excuse me, I mean Yancy Butler (gee I wonder how I could get them two confused). What does Yancy Butler have in common with Linda Hamilton, besides the fact they talk alike, look alike and even have the same type of voice overs, other than that they have nothing in common. Then let's look at the other actors, Eric Etebari, is really the only one worth mentioning, due to the fact that no one can act. Although Cody from Baywatch won my favoritism when he was watching Thundercats, but beside that, he still sucked.

Now let's talk about the Witchblade itself. Since the actress couldn't possibly fill the suit, a redesign was made. Instead of a sexy look, there is a suit of armor. Now a suit of armor could work, but at least make it look interesting instead of a plain suit of armor that has no special designs. Most of the time the Witchblade is a glove, which always manages to block bullets. Now I am willing to believe that all bullets are attracted to this glove, making easier to block, but she manages to get hit by one of the bullets and still acts as if nothing happened. Also in attempt to confuse audiences even more, a sword pops out of the Witchblade, at least I think it does. After all that money spent on the special effects, they couldn't afford to make the blade pop out so people could tell that it came from the glove like it did in the comic.

Mentioning the comic brings up another point. The X-Men was so successful for the reason that it gave you enough of a story so the common man, who never read a comic book, could understand who everyone is. In Witchblade however, a few details were left out, like her ultra healing abilities. She gets a cut on her face, but in the next scene, the cut is gone, there could have at least been the Highlander effect where the cut heals in front of everyone. Having read the comic book, I know what the Witchblade is and how it has great power, but the only thing the movie explained was that the Witchblade was old and well, that was about it.

Bottom line is that for the fans who read the comic you are going to hate it. And for those of you who never read the comic, you will be lost and wondering what is going on. For a first try, I would have to say that it could have been a lot worse. On a final note I would like to say that the movie was not good, but it could have been. So if TNT did the Darkness movie then there should be less special effects and better acting (and he doesn't even need a suit of armor or any special costume) and also they should try to make it so it should be in the movies.
