Wizard
World 2000
TNT
and Warner Brothers held a special theatrical screening on Friday evening
(8/4/2000) of the upcoming telefilm, Witchblade during the convention formerly
known as the Chicago ComicCon (aka Wizard World 2000).
Witchblade
creator Marc Silvestri, director Ralph Hemecker (X-Files, Millennium) and
star Yancy Butler (the sexy machine of Mann & Machine) were in attendance
with roughly 200 very enthusiastic comic book fans.
The
screening was set for 10pm and a line began to form by about 8pm.
Fans lucky enough to get passes were treated to a special promotional mini
poster and an opportunity to meet the people involved with the film.
Applause
filled the small theater as the final credits began to roll. As the
audience filtered out of the theater, the real discussion began.
Reactions were mixed but enthusiastic. A number of fans who had read
the comic thought that it was good but wanted to see more. Those
who hadn't read the comic had a little trouble following the plot but otherwise
thought that it was enjoyable.
While
the current deal with TNT only calls for a film, the network does have
an option on a series should the ratings warrant it. Marc Silvestri
encouraged the fans in attendance to let TNT know as often as possible
that they wanted to see an ongoing series. From the reactions on
Friday, I'd say that TNT was due for a lot of response.
