Successful
architect David Kenyon (Nick Mancuso) is visited by his ex-wife Deirdre
(Yancy Butler), who has been kept a secret from his new wife, Molly (The
Usual Suspect's Suzy Amis), and their 5-year-old son. But David and Deirdre's
previous, brutal sadomasochistic relationship is a secret no longer as
psychotic Deirdre intends to destroy David's life and family, as well as
kill anyone who gets in her way.
Finally,
B-movie screenwriter Larry Cohen (Maniac Cop 1&2, The Ambulance) finds
a competent action director and a well respected cast to give a high-tone
gloss to his admittedly high camp style. Director Mark L. Lester (Commando,
Firestarter) deftly balances the unavoidable cheesiness with genuine chills
and gives new life to the exhausted "wolves in sheep's clothing" genre.
Bits of Fatal Attraction, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, and Mommy are
unabashedly strung together, leading to a fiery--and corny --finale that
doesn't disappoint. This is an excellent B movie with A aspirations.
