California's Route 118

418. Route 118 is from: (a) Route 126 near Saticoy to Route 210 near San Fernando. (b) Route 210 near Sunland to Route 249 north of La Canada. 418.3. The commission is requested to grant high priority for construction on uncompleted portions of Route 118 for which no construction contract has been awarded, in order to enable the department to award other major construction contracts, so that construction may proceed without delay on the route until it is completed, unless precluded therefrom by any conditions beyond the department's control. 418.4. In recognition of the fact that increased motor vehicle traffic uses Madera Road and Olsen Road in the City of Simi Valley to traverse between Routes 118 and 23, the department may pay up to ten thousand dollars ($10,000) annually to the city for the added costs of maintenance and operation of those two roads. The payment shall be made from funds appropriated to the department for the maintenance of state highways. This section shall become inoperative upon the department certifying that construction is complete on the 1985 State Transportation Improvement Program project on Route 23 in Ventura County which provides the freeway-to-freeway connection with Route 118. Understand For Code 418.3, this as far as I know is not taking effect, since Route 118 between Route 23 and Route 210 as a freeway is complete. For Code 418.4, it means that the city would get $10,000 to maintain these two streets, Madera Road and Olsen Road, until construction to connect the freeways, Routes 118 and 23, is complete. Somewhere in 1994 this portion was finally finished and open to motorist, so this code is no longer in operation. F&E System Entire route. Freeway From Route 23 in Simi Valley to Route 210 in Lake View Terrace, near the city of San Fernando. The name of the freeway is the Simi Valley-San Fernando Valley Freeway. A piece of this route is also named the Ronald Reagan Freeway. Since the two names seem too long for the signs to hold, and because people are just plain lazy, they don't bother with the name. Status Part (b) is not signed. Either that or people keep stealing the markers in Sunland. History Route 118, before it was a freeway in the S.F. Valley, went on Devonshire St east, Sepulveda Bl north, Brand Bl east, and then Foothill Bl east to La Canada Flintridge. If you go to Sunland and are heading west on Foothill Bl, you may catch a sign with the Route 118 marker, having the white state sign of olden days unlike the green ones nowadays, following Foothill Bl on the right lane. Scenic Route 118 from Route 23 to DeSoto Avenue near Browns Canyon. Notes Here's a truly unusual sight. When on the I-5 heading north, you get on the ramp to Route 118 going west to Simi Valley. Unlike many cases, the ramp drops you off on Route 118 allright, but on the left lanes of the westbound side! Trucks (and the speedy cars on the left lane of Route 118 heading west) be very careful here. California State Highways (Pull-down) California State Highways (Tables) The Main Page
