    History

Route 126 was envisioned to be a freeway from where it meets Route 5 in the Castaic Junction to Route 14 near Canyon Country. If you head north on Route 14, you'll notice an exit saying "Canyon Country/Sierra Hwy." The ramp that serves as the exit was meant to be the ramp to what should've been the Route 126 Freeway heading west from Route 14. The unusual greenouts on the exit signs give it away, and information from the bridge log confirms that this is indeed a route separation for Routes 14 and 126. Caltrans once offered Santa Clarita to build the freeway, but the city refused. Today, Santa Clarita is building a Cross Valley Connector in its stead.

  • September 25, 2003: AB 1717 chaptered, acknowledging said relinquishment and deleting former part (b).

On Tenth and Main Streets is the California Oil Museum, which focuses on how oil shaped the history of California from the days of the Californios onward and features displays of vintage oil machinery and gas pumps. West on Telegraph Road is the Faulkner Farm, where the Faulkner Farm Pumpkin Patch and Harvest Festival is held every year in October.

Route 126 runs through the fertile lands of the Santa Clara River, where agriculture still reigns in Ventura County. Feel free to stop by one of the many fruit and honey stands along the way and taste what Route 126 offers.

Where Route 126 meets Route 5 near Valencia lies Six Flags Magic Mountain. (In fact, former part (b) of Route 126 ran on Magic Mountain Parkway, the main entrance to the park.) Try coming on Sundays or, in the summer, Tuesdays, for short are the lines. Next door is Six Flags Hurricane Harbor.
