A Day at the Beach

How clever you are to cover your scent
With rotting fish and excrement
That sweet perfume
Of sandy tomb
Addles the senses
Pierces defenses

How subtle you are at the bbq
The family thought they'd invited you
Little Tommy's plate
Wasn't all that you ate
Grandma wasn't quite done
Now its time to run

The Hunt

A Beagle running far and wide,
searching where the rabbits hide.
It's nose gets cold,
its feet get sore,
as it tirelessly seeks to score.
The rabbit's scent drifts
through the air,
as it hops around with care.
When the Beagle passes the scent,
its howl shatters the still air.
The hunter listens with interest and care.
The dog is quivering with excitement,
as it races through the woods.
It goes for the goods.
Then a gun shot rings out.
The rabbit is gone without a doubt.
It got away this time,
but just by a turn of a dime.
The dog may be sad,
but the rabbit is glad
that it will live
to see another day.

Bagel

Bagel my beagle is funny.
She is as sweet as honey.
She buries things in my bed.
She loves to get a scratch on the head.
She waits all day for me to come home.
Although, somtimes she does like to roam.
I love her very much.
My heart she does touch.

Beagly Baby

When you were a beagly baby
your mama took good care of you
gave you food and lots of lovin'
and showed you what to do
but now you're all grown up
no longer a helpless pup
baby you're a beag-a-ly lady now
(big finish)
baby you're ab beag-a-ly la---dy now

'round the Woods

If you go down to the woods today
be careful where you go
If you go down to the woods today
take it very slow
Because Lilly & Rosa Beagle are there
Only go there if you dare
If you are a hare you better beware
Because todays the day that they are beagling about.

Weekday Blues

There goes the alarm
Bagel knows the drill
I turn it off,
He lies there still
Remove my arm
from under his head
Rub his belly
and get out of bed
Scatter the covers
in such a heap
But the Bagel
just goes back to sleep
Shower and such
then check the net
Lay out my clothes
give Bagel a pet
Pants, and shirt,
fetch something to eat
Ready to go
except for my feet
First my socks
by the resting cur
Get the shoes
he starts to stir
He leaps from the bed
and runs round the floor
He tears to the back
and sits by the door
Scoop some grub
from the dog food sack
Open the door
and we go out back
Check his water
give him his chow
Apologize then
have to go now.
Off to work
Can't be late
It his job
to stay and wait
He ever vigilant
for the errant mouse
On patrol
outside the house
He watches me leave
through the wrought iron gate
As if he's resigned
to his weekday fate.

Did She?

On skinny legs and pointy paws
The Beagle works her fearsome jaws
On chicken bones left in the street
And you, dear squirrel, should you meet
One dark and terrifying day
You will be the Beagle's prey
She'll fix you in her beagly stare
Creeping, creeping, best beware
So stay aloft, safe in your tree
I can't remember, did she pee?

~ Lisa ~
