Things To Do in Austin, TX
Kick your shoes off y'all, cuz Austin is a happenin' town.  Make sure you add some extra time to your stay, if you can, to check it out.  Below is some general stuff that we'd suggest to do based on what you're looking for.  And of course Austin has a lot of online resources you can check out as well, such as Austin360.com, Austin CitySearch, The Austin Chronicle & The Austin Chamber of Commerce.  Use the search words below in any of these sites and you should find where you're going!

Looking for grub?  Here are our faves:
Breakfast:  Las Manitas, Magnolia Cafe (open 24 hrs), Kerbey Lane (open 24 hrs, mean, BIG pancakes), The Omeletry, Sweetish Hill, Upper Crust Bakery.

Coffee:      Pacha's                 The Hideout                Ruta Maya                    Cup of Joe                Spiderhouse                   Little City                   The Flightpath

Lunch/Dinner (too many to mention!):
Guero's (Tex-Mex--mean Bloody Mary & "authentic" Mexican margaritas) *Z-Tejas (great SW cuisine)
Chuy's (Tex-Mex--where the Bush girls got caught drinking) The Oasis (great view of Lake Travis)
Trudy's (Tex-Mex--best Mexican Martinis) Romeo's (Cheap &  good Italian)
Maudie's (cheap Mexican) Shady Grove (Burgers & stuff)
The County Line (in-town bbq) Austin Java Company (sandwiches)
Rudy's BBQ & Gas station (Brian's fave, cheap bbq) Central Market (sandwiches in unique Austin grocery store)
Little Habana (Cuban & Puerto Rican cuisine) Whole Foods (sandwiches & such--lot's of veggie)
Elsie's (El Salvadorean cuisine) Tan Tan (the hairy mole---cheap & yummy pho--Vietnamese)
Ichiban or Musashino (sushi) Sarovar or Star of India (Indian)

Daytime stuff:
You name it.  Indoor stuff you could do...visit the Governor's Mansion, the Capitol Building, the LBJ library on the UT campus, The Bob Bullock Texas State Museum.  Outdoor stuff....
Zilker Botanical Gardens Mt. Bonnell Umlauf Sculpture Gardens Austin Museum of Art- Laguna Gloria
Barton Springs Pool Zilker Park The "bats" on South Congress Avenue Bridge Shopping on S. Congress Avenue

Nighttime stuff/live music:
Off of 7th & Red River you'll find more of an alternative, laid-back atmosphere.  Try Stubb's for live music or Club DeVille amongst other kewl/hip venues.

On 6th street you'll find all kinds of bars.  You'll see a lot of "shot bars" and such, where mostly University students hang out.  Faves:  The Ritz (for pool, etc.), Casino El Camino, Love Joys, or Iron Cactus for some Tex Mex.  OH, great place to go would be *Esther's Follies a hilarious variety show on 6th street.

Around 5th street & Lavaca area is what is known as the "Warehouse District,"  here you'll find the more "yuppie" or younger professionals hanging out.  Great gay dance clubs, high class establishments (or at least where you'll want to wear pants) such as Mezzaluna, Sullivan's, Truluck's, Saba, Cedar Street.  But also laid back places such as The Gingerman (96 beers on tap), The Bitter End & The Alamo Draft House (for an indie-flick)---shorts are fine.

Other cool places:  Continental Club, Saxon Pub, Elephant Room & Jovita's.

Nearby daytrip excursions:  Fredericksburg--TX vineyards, shopping, & Enchanted Rock, Wimberely--shopping, San Antonio--Riverwalk, Hamilton Pool--natural swimming pool.

*Where Brian & V first met.  Ahh, so cute.
