Historical
Background
Binalbagan
Catholic College begun as Binalbagan Catholic High School. The Starting of a
Catholic School in the area was a top priority of the Columban Fathers when they
came to Negros Island in 1950. This was in accord with the idea of the Catholic
church all over the world. On that period, there were very few schools of higher
education in the province of Negros Occidental.
It was 1961, when the Catholic Church in Southern
Negros saw the need, to help poorer students get a tertiary Catholic Education
as they could not afford to go to the colleges in cities.
The School Year 1978-79 was marked by a significant
change in BCC including the Elementary and High School departments. The
administration of the school was turned over completely to the Presentation
Sisters. During the term of Sr.Aquilla Sy, from 1978-1985 BCC launched its
program for social transformation and became an affiliate of the Education
Forum, one of the Mission Partners of the Association of Major Religious
Superiors of the Philippines. During the critical periods of the country’s
history, BCC stood on the side of the oppressed.
School Years 1996-1999 were marked by the rise in
the academic performance of graduates in BCC’s elementary, high school and
college departments. Both the elementary and high school departments
consistently made 100% passing in the national academic test.
