Several decades ago, The Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) published Organo Pleno and Full Swell written by the late Gordon Reynolds. Since then, there has been little published material (if any) chronicling the hilarious anecdotes, the practical jokes, the cock-ups and other dubious events which have occurred, and are an inherent part of, the daily make-up of the musical life of our Ecclesiastical foundations.

The editor hopes that this collection of short stories will be an amusing and yet comprehensive account of the untold goings-on in the most hallowed precincts of Barchester Cathedral.

Many an evening with fellow lay clerks has been spent by the fireside in Mrs Miggins' Pie Shop, sampling the mellifluous fare, regaling these previously unpublished tales...

Besides tales , if you have any good jokes or amusing typos that have crept into concert programmes, let the editor have them!

For obvious reasons, all names and places etc. are fictitious, hence Barchester Cathedral! (If someone can come up with a patronage this will, of course, be added.)

Below are a few snippets (their content has yet to be posted) which gives you, the contributor, some idea as to the kind of material that is wanted!

• Empty beer cans that were discretely placed in the foot-well of Organists stall. Guess what happened during the First Lesson?!



• The Chorister who (accidentally) turned the organ off (at the second console) as Barchester's Judiciary was about to process round the packed Cathedral!



• The Chorister who (deliberately) placed on the organ a copy of Blair in B minor over what should have been Stanford in C for a big Saturday evensong! What followed was quite an interesting modulation �



• The Sub-Dean who stormed into the choir vestry (boys' voices) and roared: 'Stand up the boy flicking snot across the Chancel' � oops!
