William Ricketts1, who died in 1765, made a land entry in 1753. The land was in Halifax County in an area that is now eastern Henry County near Axton. He apparently already owned land in that area. William married Mary Catherine (maiden name unknown)and had at least three children2:
(1) John Frederick Ricketts (see below)
(2) A daughter (name unknown), who married Thomas Norton
(3) a daughter (name unknown), who married John Harris, Sr.
John Frederick Ricketts had at least one son, named William Ricketts.
William Ricketts, who died in 1832, was apparently married twice:
(1) His first marriage, possibly to Barsheba Nelson, was prior to 1789.
(2) He then married Nancy Davis, daughter of William Davis, on June 4,1789. They had at least four children:
(a) Reuben Ricketts
(b) Lucy Ricketts, who married Ambrose Jackson on September 20, 1832.
(c) Nathaniel Ricketts (see below)
(d) Thomas Ricketts.
Nathaniel Ricketts was a shoemaker at Spring Garden at the time of the 1850 Census. He was born in 1795, and married Sarah "Sally" Dodson (born in 1800, the daughter of Ralph Dodson) on January 2, 1823. They had at least five children:
(1) John W. Ricketts
(2) Lucy Ricketts
(3) Reuben B. Ricketts (born 1830) (see below)
(4) Jamerson Ricketts (born 1832)
(5) Elizabeth Ricketts (born 1838).
Reuben B. Ricketts was born in 1830 and died June 9,1891. He served during the Civil War. He married three times:
(1) To Jane Richardson in December 18, 1853.
(2) To Eliza Jane Elliott in July 16, 1860. They had at least three children:
(a) Emma Ricketts (born about 1867 and married C. C. Perrow, said to be of Campbell County and the son of W. D. and Elizabeth Perrow, on January 23, 1881.)
(b) William B. Ricketts
(c) Charlie Edward Ricketts, who was born June 23, 1870. (See below)
(3) To Celeste Hearp in 1876.
Charlie Edward Ricketts was born on June 23, 1870, and died February 8, 1932. On February 25, 1892, he married Lucy James Mills (who was born April 16, 1877, the daughter of Samuel David Mills and Lucy Jane Davis, and died March 8, 1954). They had eight children:
(1) William Leonard Ricketts
(2) Viola Lee Ricketts Davis
(3) Lena White Ricketts Holley Payne
(4) Reuben Edward Ricketts (see below)
(5) Samuel Bruce Ricketts
(6) Lucy Ricketts Brown
(7) Thelma Ricketts Matthews Hodges
(8) Percy Hutchins Ricketts
Reuben Edward Ricketts was born August 8, 1901 at Dry Fork, Virginia, and died July 27, 1957. On December 23, 1922, he married Annie Marie Jones and they had five children:
(1) Helen Idella Ricketts Lynch
(2) Marion Garnett Ricketts Lewis Cook
(3) Ray Eugene Ricketts
(4) Mary Elaine Ricketts Gibson
(5) Robert Daniel Ricketts (see below)
Robert Daniel Ricketts was born on January 13, 1941. On March 29, 1968, he married Nancye Yvonne Barbour (born November 6,1948, the daughter of Ray Edwin Barbour and Ruby Mae Gusler Barbour). Robert "Danny" Ricketts worked as a letter carrier and retired in October 1992 from the U. S. Postal Service with more than 29 years of Civil Service employment. Nancye is a rural letter carrier for the Danville, Virginia Post Office, currently on a leave of absence to attend school. We are residents of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (Indian Territory - appropriate since Nancye has some Native American ancestors). Both of us are second-year students at Rhema Bible Training Center, and will graduate in May 1998. You can visit our online newsletter called Trust in the Lord.
We have three children:
(1) Jo Ann Ricketts Hill (born August 21, 1969) married Darin Andrew Hill, son of Ronald and Judy Hill, on June 15, 1990. They live in Danville, Virginia. Jo graduated from Averett College in 1996 with majors in Journalism and English. She teaches English at Laurel Park High School in Henry County, Virginia. Jo and Darin have one child: Ryan Andrew Hill, born June 5, 1993.

(2) Robert Allen "Bobby" Ricketts (born April 15, 1971) married Kimberley Leigh Wiles, daughter of Bruce Wiles and Judy Murphy Wiles Hicks, and they live in Forest, Virginia. Bobby served in the U. S. Navy and now works as a mail handler at the Lynchburg, Virginia Post Office. Bobby and Kim have one child: Joseph Robert Ricketts, born on December 29, 1990.

(3) Paul Daniel Ricketts (born June 25, 1973) married Rebecca Stanke on June 15, 1996, and they live in Cocoa, Florida. Both Paul and Rebecca are 1996 graduates of Rhema Bible Training Center and are on staff at Cornerstone Family Church in Rockledge, Florida, working with children and youth. They are expecting their first child.
Notes:
1 Various spelling were found of the last name: Ricketts, Rickett, Rickets, Ricket, Rickel, Rickle, Rickels, Rickles. Often these were obviously the same individual. In some instances, the name was spelled different ways within the same document.
