Somewhere along the line, anyone travelling around the Fifty Worlds is likely to encounter the travelling illusion show of Xukry the Xcellent. The show has everything anyone would expect of a travelling illusion show, including illusions (obviously) and pretty girls (equally obviously).
Xukry's travelling show certainly visits Yjsbso, Vlydyga and Rajeya regularly, and turns up in other cities, including Atlantis and Megalopolis, from time to time.
Xukry's usual modus operandi is to approach the theatre owner and offer a deal: Xukry will provide the illusions and some pretty girls, the theatre owner will provide a theatre and (where possible) a supporting cast, and will arrange for local advertising, and the two of them will split the profits equally. Xukry will not mind if the theatre owner haggles, and will accept any financial arrangements the theatre owner offers, as it is not the money he is interested in.
As far as the theatre owner knows, Xukry is human. He is in fact a djinni sage whose principle subject of study is humans. (Human sages study djinn, and turnabout is fair play.)
Note: Xukry usually appears as male, although in those societies where females are legally allowed to do business (far from all of them), Xukry sometimes appears as female. For convenience, I use male pronouns when referring to Xukry. I don't know how djinn reproduce, so I don't know if Xukry really has a gender at all, let alone which it is.
During the course of his studies, Xukry has reached a reasonable understanding of how humans are put together physically. He knows what injures them, what makes them ill, what makes them die, and so on.
Xukry is currently investigating human psychology. He is aware that his understanding of this is incomplete, and the reality is that he doesn't understand human psychology at all.
Xukry has the theory that the best way of studying human psychology is when the humans are (a) not alert to the fact that they are being studied, and (b) when they are exhibiting strong emotional responses, such as pleasure, excitement, embarrassment or disgust. Hence his current disguise as a travelling illusionist. While the audience is watching his show, he is studying them.
Xukry's particular current interest is embarrassment. He is intrigued by the phenomenon, and will take any opportunity he can to try to embarrass humans. However, in view of his very limited understanding of human psychology, he will often not succeed in doing so.
As a djinni of semi-noble rank, Xukry can grant limited wishes (he also has all the usual powers of djinni, noble or otherwise). If he hears anyone make a wish which he thinks would cause embarrassment to humans, he may grant it. (In principle, Xukry could grant his own wishes, but in djinni circles that is regarded as cheating, so he does not.)
Xukry is of chaotic good alignment. He will not do anything (or grant any wishes) which would cause physical harm to anyone, humans included (and remember that Xukry is intelligent and does understand what causes physical harm to humans, so he will not make mistakes about this).
Xukry's combat stats are irrelevant. He does not engage in combat. If he or anyone under his protection is threatened with violence, he will arrange for someone nearby to wish to be somewhere else, and grant that wish, extending it to himself and to everyone under his protection.
Xukry can create magical items (albeit only very minor magical items). If he succeeds in severely embarrassing someone, provided that his victim does not respond violently, he will usually offer his victim an appropriate minor magical item as compensation. (This minor magical item might, of course, itself have embarrassing side-effects when used. Xukry has a sense of humour.)
Although Xukry's main interest is the study of human psychology, as a semi-noble djinni he has duties to his fellow djinn. If he comes across a djinn bound to serve a human (because the human happens to possess a ring or magic lamp or whatever) Xukry will confer with the djinn to determine whether or not the djinn is being treated well. If the djinn is being treated well, Xukry will not interfere. If the djinn is not being treated well, Xukry will take revenge on the human; Xukry's revenge will not cause physical harm, but will be very, very embarrassing indeed.
Xukry's friends include Kryptos, head sage at the Megalopolis College of Knowledge.
Xukry and Tanleigh Dyrrant are effectively rivals, as they are competing for the same audience (sometimes literally so, if they happen to be in Rajeya at the same time). They will not use violence against one another, but will happily use any non-violent ways they can think of to spoil one another's performances.
Xukry and Septima are friends, and Septima sometimes appears in Xukry's show when other commitments permit.
Jeannie and will recognise one another and cooperate with one another if their paths should cross, but they have different aims and ambitions.
