Dilip Das Gupta

Dilip Das Gupta is an eminent artist of Varanasi who has been on the Indian art scene for well over three decades.Born 1931 in Shimla, India, he is a former student of Delhi Polytechnic, New Delhi. He is awarded prize for the best water color Landscape by the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society(AIFACS), New Delhi.He is the winner of President's Plaque, organised by New Delhi. He is the winner of National Award Lalit Kala Academy(LKA), New Delhi. In 1970, he was elected as Jury, UP State LKA, Lucknow. In 1977, he was elected as one of the eminent painters from UP State LKA, Lucknow. In the same year, he was elected as member, General Council, UP State LKA, Lucknow. Only next year he was elected jury, Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Calcutta and Gujarat State LKA, Ahmedabad. In 1982-83, he was invited as a Visiting Fellow, under the scheme of UGC (Universities Grant Commission, India) Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalay, Khairagarh, MP. He has taught at the Faculty of Visual Art at the Benares Hindu University in Varanasi.

Group Shows
He held two Group Shows in AIFACS, New Delhi. He participated
in IInd Triennial India, New Delhi and in Asian Biennial, Bangladesh. He participated in 25yrs. of Contemporary Indian Art Exhibition, organised by LKA New Delhi; Art for CRY, All India Art Exhibition held in Delhi, Calcutta, Bombay; 4th Asian Art Exhibition, Seoul, South Korea;
300Years of Calcutta Through The Eyes of a Painter, Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Calcutta and Contemporary Art Exhibition to Melbourne, Australia, organised by Multiculturalism and Internationlism Through Contemporary Art.

Solo Shows
He has held more than 45 one man shows in India, Italy, Denmark, West Germany, Malta and in Nepal.

Awards
He has been awarded by Italian Government Scholarship in Painting, he went to Lahaul and Spiti Valley on an expedition jointly organised by LKA and the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).

Participation
He recieved an invitation from the President, National Academy of Art, Republic of Korea, for participation in the Ist Asian International Art Exhibition.

Camps
He attended All India Painters' Camp at Lucknow, organised by UP State, LKA, Lucknow and at Portblair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), organised by LKA, New Delhi.

Collections
His work can be found in collections in India and abroad.

At present he is working as a freelance artist in Varanasi, India.
