Chapter 17

Rumours had already passed through every ear in this Camp. Rumours about the new rescue team going out into the hellhole in the halls. Many people were betting that no one would return alive, others saw a light of hope.

I think that the people who werent going into the halls were more nervous than we were. Although, there were some exceptions

Were all going to die. Said Jenn, as she packed some medical supplies in her backpack. Chris, Jenn, Callie and Me were preparing for our trip in the science office.

Stop being a pessimist. Chris said as he grabbed a notebook and a pencil into his backpack. And whats the paper for? To write our wills or something? Jenn said sarcastically.

No. Its for the layout of the halls, so we dont get lost. And perhaps to put some Data on the monster we meet on the way, for future references.

We all just stood there in shock. You really thought about this didnt you? Callie said as she stood there holding some hairpins; probably to make into picklocks.

Of course I did! Chris said as he stood proudly in front of us, I mean I have the brains, not to mention the looks.  We just stood there annoyed.

Megan and Addison came in with some bags. Megan dumped one of the bags on the round centre table, handguns came out. Whoa now! Now this is what Im talking about! Chris said as he quickly took one. Are these for us? Callie asked. Megan nodded her head, Yep, although I hadnt expected Rachel to get this many people! So this is all we have.

Jenn looked a bit uneasy, as she looked at the guns layed out in front of her, One question here, where and how did you get these guns? Megan seems a little embarrassed, Youd be surprise to see what teachers hold in their desks.

Jenn giggled as she slowly picked up a hand gun, Youre telling me that you found these in the teachers desks!? Why would they have them there? Its not like they need protection from anything? Callie giggled as she said, Maybe its for the protection from the students. I mean, Schultz did say that we made him crazy! At that, they both laughed, but I noticed that Addison was still carrying a bag.

Whats in that bag? I asked. He turned around and said, The bigger guns, not for you guys though. And he walks away. Callie and Jenn stopped laughing and looked at each other, Bigger guns?! And Chris just stood there with his head down, holding his little handgun, And Im stuck with this?!

Chris, Jenn, Callie, and me each took a gun. Megan explained us how to use them and handed us 12 clips. Only 12 for all four of us?! Chris said, obviously a little shocked. Thats all we have. Megan said. I looked on the table and picked up the fifth handgun, And whos is this?

Its suppose to be for Hannah, but I see shes not here with you. So that means shes probably with the other boys. Rachel can you hand that to her for me please?  I nodded my head, Sure thing. And with that I left Megan explaining more about the gun to Jenn and Callie.

I went to the corner of the gym where there was some kind of curtain covering the small area from the rest of the camp. Its there that the rest of the group should be.

There were some kids peeking into the curtains, until they heard a small bang. Than the whole camp went silent. But in a minuet or two, it was as noisy as it was before. I had entered the small area only to see smoke on the table.

That was *cough* much gun powder, Mac! Hannah said as she covered her mouth and nose with her hands.

The more the better! *cough* Mac said as he went to the table again. Conner was holding some tennis balls and other stuff, Well be damn prepared for monsters with these bombs! Nothing is going to take us down without taking them down! Both Mac and Conner laughed together, while the rest of us looked at them with annoyance.

Oh, Rachel! I didnt see you there. Hannah said. I can see why I muttered while trying to fan away the smoke.

I came here to check on how you guys are doing, and to give you this. I explained as I handed her the handgun. Thank you! She responded. She stuffed the gun into a first aid bag she was carrying.

And what do we get? Mac asked with impatient. Than Addison dumped the bag on the table where the smokes disappear, I was going to give you these right away, but you wanted to show me that bomb youve been working on. True to his word, there were big guns coming out of the bag.

Mac quickly grabbed one, Sweet, my very own submachine gun. Conner looked at Mac with annoyance,  And what do I get? The old shotgun I was using? Conner picked up the familiar looking shotgun; I think I saw him with it when we first entered camp.

Addison picked up the second Shotgun; probably the old one Mac was using. Brent came through holding a bag. He opened the bag on the table to show a lot of balls in them, These are the only ones we have left, I took every Smoke, Stink, and Flash bombs we made.

How much do you have in there? I asked as I looked into the bag. Brent replied, I think there was 6 Smoke Bombs, 9 Stink bombs, and 3 flash bombs. And Conner add, And with 5 explosions and 5 fire bombs, Id say were set to kill some monsters.  I heard Hannah mutter, I just hope that we dont have to come across them

Mac hold up the last gun on the table to Brent, But you cant be safe without having a gun, right? Mac tossed the long looking gun to Brent. Brent caught it, You should be more careful next time.

Meh, I knew you were going to catch it, and beside, the safety lock is on. You do know how to work it do you? Brent chuckled at that, I am a farmer, too, you know. I can shoot a pigeon 150 feet away from me.  Mac just ignored him as he glimmered over his submachine gun.

Megan entered in, Does everyone have a gun and their stuff ready? Everyone nodded their heads. Although I noticed something, What about Rick? Doesnt he get one?

In a serious tone of voice, she replied, No. I was shocked and surprise by her answer, Why!? Hows he going to defend himself?! Mac laughed as he replied, Defend himself? We dont even know how he is, or what he is. Conner replied as he was stuffing the bombs he was holding into some book bags, Yeah, I mean, hes really wired. He hasnt eaten since he got here, and has really slept either! He hardly ever talks and hes plain, old creepy!

Megan looked at me, And besides, were out of guns. I had to take the guns that I had in reserves to protect Camp from the monsters. Im sorry.

I walked to where Rick was, the only place he had been since we got here. It was sad really. He looked so much like a prisoner. He had always had two guys looking over him. Both the guards were unarmed due to the fact that we practical took away every gun for the rescue team.

I approached Rick and the two guards, who were unfamiliar to me, where looking at me. I want to talk to Rick, is that ok? I asked them. They both nodded. Rick opened his eyes as his head was down. Making him look like he was sleeping against the wall. He looked at me, but didnt say anything.

Um Rick? I asked. And yet he still didnt say anything. I was a little disappointed by him for not saying anything, Rick, they wont give you any guns or anything to protect yourself from the monsters out in the halls. So I would understand if you dont want to come now. He closed his eyes as he straightened up, Ill still come.

I was happy in some strange way. I mean, hes still coming! But hes going to be unarmed in a dangerous place, Im glad to hear that. I didnt want to change his mind by telling him over and over that its going to be dangerous. I was happy with his decision.

As I turned around to walk away, but when I was about 20 feet away from Rick, one of the guards came running to me. He looked at me with a happy smile, Id like to wish you and the rest of you good luck on your journey outside of Camp. Its a dangerous place, but I know youll do great. What Im basically trying to say, is that what your doing means a lot to the rest of us. Good luck. And he shook my hand with a happy smile.

I was shocked; he was the first person who actually did that. I was glad to see him happy, Thanks, but you neednt be so kind. What Im doing, is what most people would have done.

He smiled, Yes, but you are the one whos doing it. And beside your so kind to other people. You were the second one to visit that guy over there. He nodded to Rick, Id say that practically everyone is afraid of him, all the kids keep away from him. And all the older kids look at him like he was a monster or something. But you actually visit him without fear. The last person who visited him just

Last person? And who was this? I asked out of curiosity. The guard explained to me, He was a little kid, about this high. He had really dark brown, almost black hair. He also had a red sweater on with That sounds like Oh my god! What was Eric doing there?!
