Chapter 14

            �Kevin never made it here?!� I shouted, I noticed I almost woke up Eric. �You must understand that not everyone made it here! Everyone was scattered when the Monsters came, I was lucky to get here alive!� Megan told me, she was trying to calm me down.

              She took a deep breath and told me, �When the monsters came, the school changed and merged with the elementary school. The two schools became one huge maze. And if that wasn�t enough, monsters were also roaming about, taking each one of us down, one by one.�

               I was mad, �Well, than how did you all make it here!� She turned around and looked directly at me with those sad, determined eyes. She looked angry, and her tone suited her looks, �A lot of people came here because of the sacrifices that so many gave to bring us here.� She narrowed her eyes; �Noticed how there�s no teachers around here, or hardly any older male students in Camp? They went out in the halls trying to bring all of us here! Out of 12 members of the rescue squad who came saved me, only two made it back to save only me! We lost more than we saved! We won�t go out in the halls unless we have to.�

              It angered me, but she was right. I looked at my sleeping brother. Now I see what he went through, all hope is lost out in the halls. Poor Eric.

              �Look, I know how you feel, but there is no purpose hanging on it. You should move on. Get some sleep, and get use to your new home.� Megan said as she left Eric and me to go to sleep.


             I don�t know if it was easy to go to sleep or not. The bench I was sleeping on was hard and very uncomfortable, and the noise around me wasn�t helping me. There had been children crying, yelling, and talking. But from that entire running out in the halls, that tired me down a lot. Even with all that distractions, I fell to sleep in a matter of minuets.
            
             Eric was the one who woke me up. I sat up and noticed how sore I was from sleeping on that hard bench. I looked at my watch and saw that it was 5 am. �Time doesn�t matter in here.� Eric said as he handed me a cup filled with water, �Look, my watch says it�s 11 pm. And I bet you that everyone else says something different.� Megan was right than�

             �So how the water?� Said Eric as he sat down beside me. I looked at the water than him, �To tell you the truth, it tastes like it�s been sitting out in the open for years.�  He laughed, �It probably was!� I looked at him with a confusing look; he noticed that it was still too early for me to think straight. � The taps in the schools don�t work, and so they had to break down the pluming system only to find the well was right underneath them. The water works to decontaminate the system is probably lost in the school somewhere.�

             I looked at him with amazement, �Where do you learn that from? I mean before you didn�t even know where the water goes when you flush the toilet.� He laughed and said, �Really!? Gosh, I don�t remember that!� Than it struck me, I looked at him seriously, �Eric? How long have you been here?�

             He looked down and concentrated hard, �Must have been at least 5 months� maybe more.� I looked at him in shock, I though Megan was long� but 5 months, that crazy! Eric has been through a lot� more than I thought.

             �But I learn a lot! How else can I make it to where I am now! I can even make some interesting things, hehe!� He said happily, giggling the whole time. I amazed that he�s trying so hard to keep this a happy moment, ignoring that sadden fact; this is Hell, there�s no doubt about it.
              �Well, than. Is the food better than the water you gave me.� I asked as I gave him the empty cup. He took it and smiled, �Only if you have a lot of imagination!�

               I see what he means; we headed to the outside of the Science door. There, there were some people serving some yucky looking goulash. We had to wait in line to get our unpleasant meal. When we finally made it through the long line of hungry people, I was only given one hand full of the stuff to eat and was asked to move along. I sat on the same bench as I sleep on, looking at the gross meal in front of me. I brought my spoon in it and lift it up to see that it just plumped on the bowl. It was sticky, chunky, and smelled bad.

             Eric came up to me and was already eating all he was given. When he finished he looked at me, and wiped off his face. �Are you going to eat that?�

             �No� that�s ok, I�m really not that hungry anymore.� I said as I gave him my bowl. �Are you sure? I mean, that�s all your going to have today.� I nodded in certainty, it seems that Eric needed it more than me at the moment.

             �What do you mean that�s all we�ll have for today?� I asked. Eric finished that meal in a matter of seconds, I�ve never seen him eat that fast before. �It�s just that we�re running out of food here. So to improvise they went to the science lab and put what they can find that are harmless to us in to one huge meal. Unfortunately they�re running out of materials to put in the meals��

             That can�t be good.


              Funny how things that you didn�t noticed before, just seems to bug you after. Ever since Eric told me that they were running out of food, I noticed how the lost of food has effected almost everyone in camp. The little kids have been crying, teenagers have been unusually skinny, and the sick don�t seem to get any better.

              Eric never left me alone to join his friends; instead his friends came to him. While they were there they wanted to hear about how I escaped the monster out in the halls. And me, being the great storyteller I am, told them the absolute opposite. I told them more of an adventure and dramatic parts, nothing about that would scare them and above all else, nothing about how we felt; fear.

              They seem to like my stories, so I told them some more of my impressive stories I had in mind. As I was telling my stories, more and more people came by. The kids were impressed and some even helped in my stories by giving me some ideas, while the older teenagers were sitting back and relaxing.

               This continued practically all day. Until I was starting to grow tired, so I started to finish my story I was on, �� She left with her brother, both thinking of what just happened today. An hour later, an unexpected guest came by the now-destroyed house. Erik had finally came home, only to find his home destroyed��

               I took a stop and glanced around at the people sitting in front of me. Little kids were starring at me, waiting to hear what next. The teenagers were resting against each other, relaxing and listening at the same time.

              �I�m sorry, but I�m getting tired and I would think it�s time for us to get some rest.� I finally said. The gathered crowd moaned and many had asked for me to continue. �I�m sorry, maybe later.� They than stand up, stretched and left. Some people cam up to me and thanked me for the stories.


              I went to sleep that night with Eric beside me. I was glad that he went to sleep, and that he was actually smiling while he was asleep. It made me happy to see that.

           This night was harder to go to sleep, mainly because my stomach was growling the whole time. Man, I have never staved like this before� Every time I was thinking about how I should have eaten that goulash they handed me. But than the image of how Eric was eating it so fast� I had done the right thing in giving it to Eric instead of me.

           To keep my mind off my hunger, I was thinking of ways to help out here. After a few hours, I had my plan. Even though it�s probably the most ridicules one I ever thought about. But I have to�


           �Are you nuts!!?? Didn�t anything I said to you before mean anything to you before!?� Megan shouted. The morning was probably the worst time to take about my plan. 

             We were in Megan little headquarters. Made in the science office, with a table in the middle with all this paper over it. Some had maps of Camp and the others where full of lines and other things I didn�t get. Megan and me were basically alone, except for Eric and Chris, I guess Megan second-in-Command. Chris was looking through the maps, hardly paying any attention to us. Eric was listening, but was looking at the papers on the table.

             �There is no way I�m going to allow you to do it!� Megan was pissed, something I have never seen before. �Look, it�s the only way! If we don�t do anything, than everyone will eventually starve to death!� She looked at me with angry eyes, an eerie silence came by before she said, �Even if I let you go, who do you think will follow you? No one is that crazy to go out there, not even to save themselves.�

              �I�m sure I can find some people.� I said in a very confident way. She looked at me like I�m going to walk to my doom, well, in a way, I kind of am. �Fine. Fine. But we�ll do things my way. That way, you and your rescue group could walk out in the halls with a little more hope of coming back safely.�

              �That can help. Thanks, Megan.� I said. She looked at me with a forced happy smile, �Look, not to bring you down or anything, but� if you can�t get more than 6 people than I won�t allow you to go. But I�m sure you can do it! Now go and find those lucky people.�

              I left with Eric, but not long after we left, Chris came running at me. �Umm� I was listening to what you and Megan were talking about.� He said tiredly from the rush to get to me. I looked at him to continue, �Yeah, so?�

               He blushed and said in shy way, as if he forgot to say what he was suppose to, �Can I go with you? You know, as a member of the rescue Team?� I looked surprised, �Well, that was fast! I already have someone and it didn�t take more than 5 minuets!� Chris looked at me happily, �So that means I�m in?�

              �Sure you are, as long as you know what you�re in for.� I said in a serious tone, he nodded his head. �Good, than you�ll wait till I can gather everyone than.� He started to walk back to the Science Office, �I�ll be in Science Office all the time, just send your recruits there so I can start making some plans with Megan!�

               I just stood there looking all happy and all. Eric looked at me and said, �Wow, you ARE good at getting people to do the impossible!� I looked at him with my newfound hope, �Of course I am! Now lets see who else I can get to do the impossible!� We laughed and made our way through the Camp to Jenn.


              Jenn was at a corner with some of our friends there, Sarah, Ashley, Jessa, Justin and so much more. They were talking about something in the movies. They looked happy and I almost felt bad when I have to ask Jenn if she wants to come.

             ��Than he just turned green, and than turned into the HULK!!� Jenn said, making the impressions of the Hulk. Everyone around her laughed. I came in and Jenn waved at me, making everyone else look at me, �Um� Jenn, can I talk to you please?� Everyone looked at me wired, Jenn than walked to me and we backed away from the group a bit.

            �What is it?� She asked. �Umm� I really don�t know how to say this in a way that is pleasant to hear.� Jenn, the impatient person she is said, �Well than say it to me straight.�
I took a deep breath before I started my long explanation, �Ok, I want to assemble a search/rescue party to go out in the halls to look for some food, because the food in here is practically gone! And we�d probably have a better chance to find people at the same time� So I was wondering if you wanted to come since I know that you are in better shape than most of these people here!�

            Jenn just stood there with her mouth open, not even blinking while she just starred away. There was a long silence where Eric and me waited for her to say something. Than after what seemed like a long time, she finally said something. Although it wasn�t exactly what we wanted�

           �WHAT!?!?! Are you nuts!? There is no way I�m going to back out in the halls to save other people lives!!� She screamed! I could hear our friends muttering after they hear what Jenn said.

            �But please! Everyone is going to starve eventually, so we have to do something now!� She looked like she was going to kill me, but than after Eric grabbed my hand she calmed down before she said, �That�s not your real reason to go out there is it?�

            I lowered my head in ashamed, �No. I have to find my brother� And this is the only way to.�
