The
Seal of Angelicum
The
seal of Angelicum is made up of a shield with a sun above it,
and a banner inscribed with the motto of the school below it.
The sun on the top, rendered in gold is symbolic of St. Thomas
Aquinas, Doctor of the Church and patron saint of Angelicum,
whose works and teachings exemplify one of the best Dominicans
in particular, and in general, of the church search for truth.
The same works and teachings illumine and inspire Angelicum
as it strives for excellence in its own search of Veritas.
The upper part is a sky blue shield that carries an open book
in gold and with a Latin word Veritas inscribed on it in red.
The open book is set between the symbolic of Greek letters Alpha
and Omega, also rendered in gold.
The open book inscribed with the word Veritas represents the
quest for all knowledge especially in searching for the truth,
which is Jesus Christ. And just as all knowledge should begin
and end in God - the Alpha and Omega. The blessed Virgin Mary's
intercession is dutifully invoked in the search for Truth in
setting all the symbols and inscription amid the Marian colors
since Angelicum is devoted to her.
The lower part of the shield, designed to support the upper
part, is the Dominican shield and cross representing the Order
of Preachers who establishes the school whose charism and zeal
for the truth as embodied in the Latin words: Contemplare et
contemplata aliis tradere, are deeply ingrained and manifested
in the schools activity as well as in its vision, mission statement,
philosophy and objectives, a reflection of the full and unqualified
support for Angelicum's search for truth. The white and black
colors represents purity and sacrifice, respectively.
The school's three-word motto of CHARITAS, JUSTITIA, FORTITUDO
together with the seal being encased in gold, underscores the
attainment of excellence in the search for truth in academic
pursuits and other endeavors, but more so in the refinement
of the spirit. Everyone who passes the portals of Angelicum
is expected to have a great love of God, a strong sense of justice
towards others and unyielding Fortitude to overcome all odds
in the service of God and neighbor.
