An AutoBiography

I was born in Singapore on 3rd October 1980 in the popular Kandang Kerbau Hospital. Apparently almost every babies came out their mothers' wombs in this hospital in the 1980's, unless you are VERY filthy rich! lol. So I guess that must also be the day I first cried in my life.

I used to live in an apartment in Ang Mo Kio when I was little. I still vaguely remembered playing with red ants in the numerous ant hills in a nearby field. Sticking a twig into the entrances of ant hills, I drew out unsuspecting ants and, well, killed them. It reminded me of the recent commercial on TV that asks if you want to raise up your child as a doctor or murderer! lol. I guess that I was a spoilt and selfish child then. At the end of Kindergarten 1, my family moved to a bigger apartment in Tampines. I attended a new Kindergarten and there I knew a girl by the name of Tan Liyan who later was in the same class with me for a record 7 consecutive years!!! This record is yet to be broken and probably will never be.

Since my parents had 3 children which was against the government's 2-child policy then, I had no priviledges and soon ended up in the "rejects" class in East View Primary School. The class was Primary 1/8, the last class. I represented my class in the inter-class Mathematics and Spelling competition but did not win anything. By Primary 2, I was top in class. The top 4 students were promoted to the top class Primary 3/1. The 5th position student went to Primary 3/2 while the rest remained in Primary 3/8. I was infatuated with a girl named Zhu Fengyi who was my former Kindergarten 2 classmate. I was her sitting partner in class. Anyway, she went to the second class in Primary 4 while I remained in the top class till Primary 6. I was weak in Mandarin and had to attend many remedial classes. I thank God for good Mandarin teacher like Mdm Ng Ah Muay. In fact, all my mandarin teachers in my life played a great part in helping me cope with my weakest subject. They are Mr Chiang Chong Tat (secondary school) and Mdm Lee Woon Leng (junior college). All had allowed me to achieve better-than-expected results for Mandarin in the major examinations. By the way, I was part of the 1st batch of EVPS "graduates". In Primary 4, there was a craze for "Archie Andrews" comic books. In Primary 5, I was appointed as a school prefect which I resigned after a year, in my preparation to face the 1st major hurdle in my educational ladder, Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). In Primary 6, I scored a goal in a soccer match for the 1st time in my life in my team's 1-2 defeat. I achieved 2 A*s and 2 As for my PSLE which was an excellent grade.

I was posted to St Hilda's Secondary School (ranked 43 out of 130 schools). I did not want to remain there and so I chose to appeal to Anglican High School (ranked 10). Despite meeting the entry requirements, my appeal was rejected. With my Dad's help, I appealed to his alma mater Victoria School (ranked 15 then). I did not do well academically in prestigeous Victoria School in secondary 1G. In Secondary 2, my mother started to turn to Pentecostal Christianity and my dad, in defiance, turned to Roman Catholicism while I sticked to atheism, rather trusting in my dinosaurs' fossils, dead Charles Darwin and his controvesial Evolution theory. I was quite dumb at that time I guess. I spent lots of time, reading theological books but instead of doing badly in my studies, I entered my class top 10 students' list for the 1st time since Primary 1 & 2. My family and I converted to Protestant Christianity (Anglicanism) at the end of 1994.
