Twin Glories for the College of Science Glee Club
The virtues of the sciences pale when not united with the arts. It is probably for this reason that we have the College of Science Glee Club. After all, music is the universal language. Since the organizations foundation in 1988, it has graced nearly all of our colleges special activities such as last years Fiesta Filipiniana and the annual Palarong Agham. Its presence at a particular function is implicitly held as a regular feature. This year, their competence as music-makers was made known in the entire University of Sto. Tomas. The 26th of February saw them gain a wider and very much deserved recognition as they won all the honors of the 1998 Intercollegiate Songfest. Both CSGC member, Ma. Cristina Pagsanjan and the core group of the CSGC placed first in the solo and choral categories respectively. Cri-C, as Pagsanjan is fondly called by peers, sang a brilliant rendition of What Kind of Fool Am I. I remember arriving late and hearing this girl sing. Her powerful vocals had alarmed me for I presumed she represented another college. Much to my relief, Benedict Manning, CSGC auditor, informed me that she belonged to our college. The core group of CSGC performed Prayer of St. Francis and a tribal burial number, Chua Ay. In the latter song, the group dared to include a part, which focused on two girls hair-raising and flawless soprano. The unusual hush in the Medicine auditorium evinced the tension, respect, and eventually, the admiration of the stunned and dazzled audience. The CSGCs twin glories brought our college respect from the rest of the university. On that contest night, many students from the other colleges cheered the performances of both Pagsanjan and the CSGC. The uproar of cheers as Science spectators rushed to the stage after the announcement of winners reveals the overwhelming support and restored pride of our colleges studentry. It is indeed ingratiating that through the CSGCs victories, we remember how to be proud of our being students in the College of Science.
