Biography
It
certainly has been a rollercoaster ride and they've only been together for a
few months. Popstars: The Rivals began on UK screens in September 2002
and finished in December 2002. Out of tens of thousands of hopefuls
only five girls and five boys were picked. In the last few weeks the
remaining ten girls were voted off week after week. Linzi, Emma,
Chloe, Aimée and Javine were the five not to make it into the band.
But for Cheryl, Nicola, Nadine, Kimberley and Sarah the journey had just
begun. The five winning girls named themselves Girls Aloud and
recorded their first single 'Sound of the Underground'. After a
whirlwind week of promotion with a stunning video to back them up, the band
shot to no.1 with total sales of 225,000, while rival boy band One True
Voice sold 175,000. The girls then stayed on top for a couple more
weeks and three months later were still in the top 20! April 2003 and
the band's second video was released. No Good Advice was another
attitude pumped electro pop tune which would establish Girls Aloud in the
music industry. No Good Advice shot to no.2 in the charts with a total
sale of 40,000 while the reigning no.1 had sales of 60.000. Now the
girls are releasing their debut album, a respectful fifteen track album of
pure electro pop. Mars Attack, Life Got Cold and Some Kind of Miracle
are hailed the best of the bunch plus Girls Allowed which was penned by
Westlife's Bryan McFadden. Girls Aloud have made it and are clearly
showing signs that ain't gonna do a Hear'say so expect to see the girls for
a long time!
