Studies

In the class,we use total communication in our teaching. That is talking and signing so that the blind should hear and the deaf should see. It is most difficult method we have chosen, but it has worked. This offers wonderful opportunity for building stronger relations and integration in children.

After a period of resource room training for the visually impaired children, they are integrated and have proven that they can go alongside with their normal peers. They listen and Braille their lessons or exercises and complete in the class of both the normal and deaf.

SUMMER TEACHERS TRAINING
Capacity building of special teachers every summer is our priority as they will use those skills to teach the children.

Braille or sign language are the tools of communication for blind and deaf. Normal children including orphans benefit from the total communication.

What is ALMBDC doing to assist children with Visual and Hearing Loss (Health Wise).

We screen and refer the children with health problems to the hospital especially those with eye problems. Since the creation of the project in 1995, we have helped more than 20 children with eye problems and eleven (11) have been assisted to pay their cataract operation bills in the hospital.

Dr. Waindim Paul has been very instrumental in assisting most children referred to him by us. May God give more grease to his elbows.

Referal services are really important

Education Wise

Children are given primary/nursery education at Kitchu-Belo. Some children are intergrated in Jinkfuin Government Primary School and Fundong respectively, with itinerant teacher services.

Environmental Education

There is vetiver grass technology planted on the school plot. The farmland is sloppy and has chalky soil. So we have planted the vetiver grass whose roots have proven to control erosion.

We use the grass top to weave local crafts such as baskets, hats, trays etc. It is wonderful that the roots of the grass when harvested, washed and dried can be used to preserve grins and protect weavils from getting in. It also has medicinal values. We are gradually helping the children to learn more uses of the natural grass.
