i had this horrible revelation yesterday...as p and i were listening to the "cat steven's" cd that i got him for valentines day (only because it most closely resembles what would be a soundtrack for the movie "harold and maude", not because i know anything about him). i was really enjoying the music, when i started thinking about how my musical taste has been formed almost entirely by other people. |

"morecheeba"...that would be travis, along with "sneaker pimps", "lenny kravitz", and probably several others that i can't think of right now. |

i remember another boyfriend of many years influencing me towards "the nylons", and before that, my brother was the very beginning of my appreciation, from "the doors", to "van morrison", to "led zeppelin", and a whole slew of others. |

the only ones i feel i can take credit for myself, are some 80's artists, like "howard jones" and "tears for fears", but the rest were all one hit wonders that remind me of junior high and high school: which is, i'm sure, why i like them, the nostalgia, not because i actually liked the "style" of thier music. |

"alice in chains" came from a guy i dated briefly in college... |

i am happy to announce, however, that randy influenced me in no way. in fact, i'm beginning to think our differences may have been partly due to the fact that i refused to be influenced by him in any way whatsoever towards the end...but that's another story entirely... |

i guess part of me feels like..."well, how else are you supposed to get turned on to different bands and artists? somebody has to play them for you first, right?" but, i don't know...it makes me wonder. what do you think? |
