21April00

well - it's good friday and in my opinion we shouldn't even be open, but apparently half of the office doesn't care if it's an officially recognized holiday cuz they just took off anyway. i'm thinking the possibilities of me actually sticking around until 5:00 are slim to none.

my grandmother passed away on good friday 12 years ago. it hardly seems possible that it's been that long. i was pretty close to her. she went to florida every winter, so she and i would write letters back and forth. she was always really good at that. she must've received tons of letters everyday from family and friends and she would always respond immediately.....i always loved getting her letters in the mail. she was the glue that stuck the family together...and when she got sick she made us promise to keep in touch with one another. we're spread out all over the u.s. - iowa, florida, kansas, pensylvania, michigan, south carolina - so it's difficult, and i have to admit, we're definately not as good about it now that she's gone - but we try.

anyway - i just thought i'd mention her to y'all - since this day is the anniversary of her passing - i always thought that to be quite fitting....good friday. she had the biggest heart of anyone i've ever known. i usually feel her with me when i'm going through hard times or big changes of any kind. i often think that i wish she could meet paul - i know she would definately approve.

well - on more of an upnote.....i saw this cute little car on the way to work today....it was a new volkswagen beetle painted to look like a cop car. the license plate said 'geek 8' - on the side was a logo stating geek squad...so i asked paul about it, i guess they're a bunch of computer wizes that can fix any ailment your little electronic friend may have....i thought it was a clever idea for a company - and a name.

my social calendar is really filling up....spring must be ahead. i just got invited to another party next week - except i can't go because it falls on the night of my class. i'm not big on mid-week gigs anyway...i'm the type of person that needs to get her sleep.

well - it's mercifully sunny today - thank god! it's amazing how much faster the traffic moves when the sun is shining....you'd think the two would be totally unrelated - but it's true. yesterday it was cloudy and drizzly all day - not even storming or pouring, but the traffic slowed down to a crawl....it took me twice as long to get home as it would normally. then this morning it's nice out and everything's moving along smoothly.....it just goes to show you that my theory still holds - people really are idiots.
