Before this review, were known of Delatorreidae six species of the genus Pseudarmadillo Saussure, 1857: three Cuban exclusively [P. gillianus Richardson, P. buscki Boone, P. hoplites (Boone)], one shared by Cuba and Bahamas (P. carinulatus Saussure) and two fossils described of amber of the Dominican Republic (P. tuberculatus Schmalfuss and P. cristatus Schmalfuss).

 

   The examination of a rich collection of Cuban terrestrial isopods, collected by Luis de Armas mostly, during the last 20 years, it has allowed us to verify the extraordinary diversification of this family in Cuba, as well as the high inclination that have these "cochineals of humidity" to differ morphologically among a population and other, variations that don't involve, necessarily, an specific isolation.

A deep analysis of Delatorreidae  family disclosed two genera and 17 species reported from Cuba, of these, 16 are endemics and one subfamily, one genus and 13 species are new to science. Two subgenera  are described also.
