Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod is a private, Catholic, co-educational institution of
learning owned and administered by the Augustinian Friars of the Province of Santo Niņo de
Cebu, Philippines.
Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod grew out of the former Casanova School founded by
Doņa Soledad Locsin. On August 9, 1961, final arrangements were made for the transfer of
Casanova School to the Augustinian Order and on July 8, 1962 Casanova School became
Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod and in recognition of a more broadened educational program
envisioned by the Augustinian administrators. The school offered kindergarten, elementary
and high school education.
In May 1963, the Administration building was constructed along North Drive and 20th
Street. On July 19, 1964 the College Department opened with curricular offerings ranging
from Liberal Arts, Education, Commerce, Secretarial and Technology courses like Chemical
and Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry and Medical Technology.
With the opening of the College Department and the good impression CSA-B created
on the Negrenses, the population of the school had grown tremendously. This prompted the
administration to construct the College Building, a four storey building along 18th street.
The seventies saw CSA-B gaining prominence not only in the field of education but
also in sports. The school reaffirmed its prominence with the opening of the College of
Nursing in 1970 and the resounding results of the performance of its graduates in the different
licensure examinations. CSA-B athletes were known for their outstanding performance in
basketball, track and field, football and cycling.
In 1987 the construction of Sto. Niņo Building was undertaken to cater to the growing
number of students and the need for additional school facilities. Since 1962, CSA-B has
expanded steadily in its building program, educational facilities and curricular offerings. It has
enhanced faculty and staff development for revitalized academic instruction and improved staff
services. The Technology Building was renovated in April 1992; the Adeodatus Building was
constructed in August 1995 and the Student Center in 1996.
Today, CSA-Bs physical feature have greatly improved. From the surplus tent pitched
under the mango tree CSA-B had grown into a more responsive and well equipped
educational institution ready to meet the challenge of a global education.
The Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod will surely keep on soaring high like an eagle
committed to produce globally competitive graduates with high sense of moral and spiritual
values.
