Anne's second diary was lost. But she did finish the rewrites for it, so we basically have it. The second diary must have covered about: 7 Dec '42 to 22 Dec '43. Her tone in the rewrites is more mature than the first diary and one can't quite believe she could go from writing to an assortment of diary personalities to -- suddenly -- start writing to only one ("Kitty"), and in a less childish manner. This is natural, as she was more mature when she did the rewrites, in 1944. There are two original entries from this period: 5 Dec 1942 and 2 May 1943, both in the first diary. (The rewrites were on the loose sheets of paper, which have a page use exploration, too.)
