Thomas Ranson

18 Feb 1842 - 8 May 1917

Thomas Ranson-Minden - Echo: The death of Mr. Thos. Ranson, aged 75 years, 3 months and 10 days, took place at the family residence, Minden Village, at 3:30 Monday morning, May 28th 1917.
Mr. Ranson was one of the very first settlers in this district, having moved with his father's family to Anson township some 56 years ago. He later chose a wife in the person of Miss Sarah Ann Mortimer, who assisted her faithful husband for many years and while a large farm was cleared and a comfortable home erected, in the township of Lutterworth, where Mrs. Ranson passed away nine years ago in 1908. The next year Mr. Ranson and the remaining members of his family moved to the village.
Deceased remained in fair health until about four weeks ago, up to which time he attended to various duties, and it was a surprise to his neighbors to learn of his serious illness.
He was a kind and indulgent father, a good neighbor and citizen. He had been for years an Elder in the Presbyterian church, and lived an exemplary life. In politics he was a Conservative.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters. The sons are Andrew of the old home, Lutterworth, Robert of Minden, and Thomas of Stanmore, Alberta. The daughter's are Mrs. William Wright, of Everett, Ontario, and the Misses Catherine and Sarah, at home. Mr. James Ranson, an elder brother of deceased, resides with the family here, while William Ranson, a younger brother, is a resident of Lindsay.
The funeral took place on Wednesday to the family plot in Minden Cemetery. Rev. G.C. Grant, of the Methodist church, conducting the services, in absence of a Presbyterian minister. The funeral was under the auspices of the Loyal Orange Association, of which deceased was a member since early manhood.


Thomas John Ranson

4 Aug 1888 - 8 Aug 1977

RANSON - Mr. Thomas John Ranson of Grande Prairie passed away on Aug. 8, 1977 in the Grande Prairie Gen. Hospital at the age of 89 years. He was born in Minden, Ontario and came to Southern Alberta in 1913. He came to the Grande Prairie area from Southern Alberta in the early 1920s where he farmed and homesteaded in the Sexsmith and Teepee Creek area until the 1960s. He later moved to Grande Prairie and became a caretaker of the Bus Depot. Later he resided in Pioneer Lodge and for the last four months he lived in the Central Park Nursing Home. He is survived by many cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Lena in 1941. Funeral service for the late Thomas John Ranson was held on Thursday, Aug. 11, 1977 at 2:30p.m., the Rev. Bob Wallace officiating. Interment followed in Grande Prairie Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Olivers Funeral Chapel.

Minnie Pearl Robinson (nee Adams)

2 Aug 1895 - 1 Oct 1963

Friends of Mrs. Minnie Robinson of Willow Point, wife of Frank Robinson, were shocked to hear of her untimely passing as a result of complications from injuries received in an automobile accident several weeks ago.
Mrs. Robinson passed away in the Campbell River and District Hospital on October 1, 1963. Since coming to the district 16 years ago, they had become well known as a result of having operated a florist shop, and in recent years as mail couriers in R.R.1.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Robinson is survived by a brother, Russell Adams, Vancouver; nephews, Robert of Keremeos, Douglas, Campbell River and Kenneth of Vancouver; and a niece Doris, Vancouver.
Funeral services were held in St. Peter's Anglican Church, on October 3, with the Rev. Trefor Williams officiating. Interment wasin the Campbell River Cemetery where members of the Island View Rebekah Lodge took part in the service. Pallbearers were members of the Independent Order of Oddfellows.
