Volunteering

In addition to monetary support, Amity House is looking for volunteers to help with our on-going programs. We rely on volunteers to assist us with departmental projects and with the running of special events. Volunteering is an excellent way to gain valuable work experience, build your resume and test out potential careers!

 

 

Teaching Tots
Presently, Teaching Tots is looking to establish both Arts for Tots and Sports for Tots programs. We are  looking for volunteers with interest in either of these areas to donate 1-2 hrs per week to help implement these programs with the assistance of our Volunteer coordinator. Other areas for volunteering for Teaching Tots include snack and meal preparation  and daily housekeeping activities. The planning and scheduling of such activities are flexible and we will try out best to accommodate our volunteers’ schedule. Both a Criminal Records check and Child Welfare Information System check will be required from our volunteers’.

Swap Shop
We are currently in need of volunteers that can pick-up and drop of clothes for our Swap Shop. Volunteers’ are required to organize and sort out clothes donations. Our Volunteers' will be required to pick-up clothes from Kids Klothes Plus More once every two weeks, and drop-off excess clothing at a Goodwill location. A volunteer with access to their own transportation would be ideal, however if this is not possible, a volunteer may instead assist staff in carrying clothing items to and from drop-off and pick-up locations. One to two hours per week would be required for this position;  times are flexiblein order to work around the volunteer's schedule.

Job Search Assistance
We are looking for volunteers with: computer knowledge--specifically with Microsoft Word© or other word processing software, excellent writing skills, knowledge of making effective résumés and cover letters, and knowledge of the interview process in order to assist volunteers on how to conduct a successful interview. The volunteer position can be done either at home through e-mail correspondence with the Volunteer coordinator or, if the volunteer does not have access to a computer, at Amity House on our computers.

Collective Kitchens & Community Lunch
We are looking for Volunteers to work with our Collective Kitchens coordinator to help with both set-up and clean-up. Volunteers will be required every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. 1-2 volunteers will also be required for picking up food from the food bank once every three to four months. This position will require a volunteer with their own transportation, however if this is not possible the volunteer may instead be required assist in picking up food.
