Fuel

I used a Paxton rising rate fuel pressure regulator (rrfpr). This unit has two -10AN ports (fuel inlet), and one -6AN drainage port. It also has a 1/8th inch NPT fitting for use with a fuel pressure gauge, and a port for your vacuum/boost signal. The unit is adjustable from 35-95 psi. One of the fuel inlet ports needs to be blocked. This can be accomplished by purchasing a -10AN boss plug. For fittings, you can purchase a kit online, or go to your local hose/hydraulics shop and pick up a few fittings (make sure they have 5/16ths hose barbs). Installing the rrfpr is very simple. On the driver's side of the motor (under intake plenum), you'll find the fuel return line. The section into which you'll install the rrfpr is hooked up to a Y-shaped fitting that is bolted to the block. From the stock fuel pressure regulator, the fuel line runs to the part of the Y fitting that is closest to the engine block. Check out the pic below (fuel returning to tank travels from left to right). The section you'll be dealing with is connected to the portion of the Y that points toward the driver's side of the car. Its a rather short line, and is connected to a hard line right near the frame and firewall (again, see pic). Remove this hose. Connect your new fuel line (remember to purchase 5/16ths high pressure EFI line) to the Y-shaped fitting, and route it to the location in which you'll mount your new rrfpr. A good location for this is the firewall behind the cruise control actuator, and to the right of the master cylinder. With your rrfpr mounted, run the rrfpr's fuel return line to the hard line that sits near the frame and firewall. Don't do any cutting of the new efi hose until you have it routed properly. This way, you won't be wasting any of this $3.00+ /ft line. I purchased a B&M fuel pressure gauge which conveniently screws into the 1/8th NPT port on the rrfpr. Via the fuel pressure adjustment screw on top of the rrfpr, I set my fuel pressure to 62 psi, for seven pounds of boost. For a boost source, tap into any vacuum line on the intake plenum side of the throttle plate.
