1985 Supra

There is a weird story behind this car. I was lounging around one day, relaxing before I had to head off to work, and my friend called me. He saw a really nice looking black 84 Supra a few days earlier. At first, I wasn't really interested, because I already had four vehicles at the time (if you count a 82 L type Supra parts car..um..well...as a car). Anyhow, he said that I really should go look at it, because they only wanted $1500 dollars for it. I was a bit surprised, and suggested to my friend that the motor was probably blown, or about to blow. When I found out that the car was black, I was even less interested. Ewww...black cars are harder to take care of, due to scratches/dust/dirt showing up more easily. That night, I emailed a fellow Supra junkie, and asked him if he wanted to check the car out with me at the end of that week. He did, and after driving around lost for a little while (my fault), we finally found the car, which, in fact, did look really good. Contrary to what my friend had told me earlier, the car was actually a 85. We hadn't even talked to the car salesman yet, before he walked by Chris Eng and I, and said, "I'll sell you that car for $1,000!!!" Even though I told Chris (during the extended drive to the car lot) that he would have to stop me before I bought any more cars, I was getting VERY tempted to get this really nice looking specimen. Don't worry, I've already thanked Chris for not talking me out of it! The interior of the car was in excellent condition, aside from the fact that there was a bit of mildew/mold on the driver's seat, and seatbelt. Note: Don't trust car salesmen that tell you, "Oh, someone must have left the window open in the recent rainstorm." In fact, don't trust salesmen if their lips are moving. :-) Chris and I continued to search the car over, looking for flaws. The 14 by 7 stock rims were in good shape, with a full size, virtually virgin spare in the trunk. BONUS!! The hatch had a few small rust spots (I've since fixed them), but wasn't that bad at all......just surface rust. We opened the hatch, and found very clean carpet and panels, plus a mess of wires, and what appeared to be some passive crossovers. All this car stereo wiring was connected to Infinity speakers, in the stock locations, which, in turn were run by a perfectly installed Eclipse CD player deck. There was also a dent in the rear quarter, near the bumper. The front, right turn signal was broken (its fixed now), with evidence of slight damage to the fender. There was also a very small dent on the sunroof, and some type of blemish on the front, driver's side fender flare. Everything worked on the car, with the exception of the fog lights (have since fixed them) and a/c. Soon enough, the salesman came back to us, and told us that the motor made some nasty rattling noise, and that no one bought it due to that fact. Chris and I drove the car. It was very solid, and didn't smoke at all. I thought something was wrong with the intake camshaft, because that was where the noise seemed to be coming from. We got back from the test run, gave the salesman my deposit, and told him that I would be back the next day to pick up my new baby. I hadn't driven the car but 70 miles before it blew the front main seal on the freeway near my house. I pulled the motor from this car, and installed the motor from my 82. Maybe I'll get around to rebuilding the 85 motor one day.

Before I went to Supras Invade Las Vegas 2000(also known as V2K), I did a thorough paint detail on the car. I used Mothers clay bar kit, and Nu-finish car polish. After Vegas, I used a very good paint cleaner and wax on the car. Zymol made the paint cleaner. Meguiars made the wax. Here are a couple of pics.

In April of 2001, I completed a full turbo installation on this car. Check it out! Tell your friends! Just click on the first link below.
