Dear Vietnam Veterans,
I would like to start out by saying Thank You for serving our country during a very difficult time in our nation's history.
The "WAR" in which you fought was neither popular nor handled properly by our government's leaders but you did what our country asked of you because of the honor within you and the desire for all people to enjoy the freedom that we enjoy in this great country of ours.
It is evident that you all have a firm belief in the principles as outlined by our founding fathers and that you are willing to do whatever it takes to uphold and defend them while so many others take them for granted and are unwilling to defend them, neither for themselves nor for others.
You went to a far off land to help others gain their freedom and were faced with many difficult challenges, not only from the enemy's forces, but also from an environment that was completely unlike any that we have here at home.
There were jungles that wanted to swallow you up leaving no sign that you were ever there; rice paddies that wanted to suck you in and not let you go; tigers that thought you would make a hardy meal; poisonous snakes that didn't want you there; and "FRIENDLIES" who really weren't.
But you dealt with these challenges and overcame them with HONOR, COURAGE and COMMITMENT. For that I Salute You!
But the biggest and most difficult challenge for many of you was coming home to the abuse and ridicule of our own countrymen who did not, nor would not answer their country's call to arms. They were people who were quick to point a finger, but would not accept their responsibility to take action to either take positive steps toward correcting the problems in our government or, most importantly, supporting you, our troops.
Even though I was not old enough at the time to help you, I want to personally say THANK YOU, GOD BLESS YOU and WELCOME HOME!!!
Sincerely,
John H. Daniels
