What is in a Network?

Ethernet

Ethernet is an inexpensive way for information to travel through a network. It is the easiest type of network to set up

Ethernet works like a polite telephone converstion, when one person talks on the phone, the other person waits until they are finished and then talks. In an ethernet network each computer waits for a pause before sending information through the network. When two computers try exchanging information at the same time a collision occurs. The computers wait a moment and then try to resend the information to the other computers on the network. Ethernet can send information at a speed of up to 10 megabits per second. (Mbps) Fast ethernet can send the information at a speed of 100 Mbps.
