Token Ring and ATM's

Token Rings works on large networks. It is an efficient way for information to travel through a network. Each computer passes a token around the network which is set up as ring. As the token passes from computer to computer it gives and picks up information.

Tokens can send information at a speed of between 4 and 16 megabits per second. (Mbps)

Asynchronous Transfer mode ATM is a faster more powerul way to exchange information in a network. ATM works by sending information in equal sized packages called cells aound the network. ATM can send information at sppeds of 25, 155 or 622 Mbps.
