JUST WORDS

Eleanor Viola Essex

I spoke---alas

too soon.

Can you Forgive?

In this hour of close encounter

On my soul I feel the sting

Of my small words to you.

Oh to dissolve the stain of those mortal blows

That hammered down upon

The tender flower of your belief.

Alas---I spoke

Too hastily.
