MY SOUL'S DESPAIR

Eleanor Viola Essex

Once I drew aside the drapery of my soul

And let it stand unclothed

It had no pride.

But, bruised and scarred by mortal eye

It hid itself

As if ashamed.

And now---it is no use

It never will

Unclothe itself again.
