Installing GUICS & Simpotato

Installing GUICS & SIMPOTATO

Following are instructions for installing GUICS and installing Simpotato into GUICS.

Installing GUICS:

GUICS comes on 2 floppy disks or as two directories of files. Run the Setup.exe program on DISK1, you will be prompted to put DISK2 into your floppy disk drive or specify the path to it at some point. When the install wizard asks you to verify the directory for GUICS, I choose browse and put it into c:\GUICS rather than the default directory (c:\Program Files\RSML\Guics as it is easier to reach C:\GUICS under MS-DOS), so I will assume that you will do the same in the instructions below.

Installing SIMPOTATO INTO GUICS: Simpotato for GUICS comes as a floppy disk or as the file SimGui.zip on my ftp site.

When the GUICS installation is complete, open an MS-DOS window and enter the c:\GUICS directory:

c:
cd \GUICS
then put the Simgui disk (or specify the path) in the floppy drive and type:
a:pkunzip -d a:guics

This will install the Simpotato model files into GUICS. Now you must tell GUICS that Simpotato is present. First you may want to create a shortcut to run the GUICS program from your "desktop".

To create the shortcut, open windows explorer, go to the GUICS directory (or whatever you named it) and right click on the GUICS application file. Then left click on "Create Shortcut" in the menu that pops up. This will create a shortcut icon in the GUICS directory, probably at the bottom of the directory list. With your mouse, put the cursor over the shortcut icon, hold down the left mouse button, and drag the icon onto your desktop.

To tell GUICS about Simpotato:

Edit the GUICS.INI file in your Windows directory (it may be called WinNT35 under Windows NT). The file will look like:

	[Armament]
	ModelsNumber=1
	Model 1=Glycim
	[Styles}
	Template=0
	GraphArrangement=1

You will need to change ModelsNumber to 3 and add the lines
Model 2=Simp-eng
Model 3=Simgui
after the line "Model 1=Glycim"

If there is already a line "Model 2=$" replace it with the Model 2 line above.
