Continued:

Run the cope cuts first. Adjust the cope cutters to cut the cope dead center on the stock. Then clamp backer blocks on both sides of the piece being machined.  These blocks greatly reduce the amount of tearout when the cutter exits the cut, and protect the stock from the clamp.  When placing the clamp on the part, care needs to be exercised that the part is not lifted off of the table.  If the stock rises off of the table during the cut the profile will not be centered and may cause the part to be rejected.

Then do the stick cuts. Without changing spindle height, mount the stick cutters and run the profile on the stiles and rails.  This operation is much smoother with the aid of a small power feeder.  The one shown here is rated at 1/4 Hp, and does a perfectly adequate job.  If  you have to feed the style by hand be sure to check every inch of the profile before breaking down the setup.  Any irregularities can be quickly fixed at this time by simply sending the part through the cutters again.
