Shaping the profiles
With all of the parts cut to finished size, except for the length of the stiles, it is now time to put the profile on the pieces. The pattern used for raising the panels and edging the stiles will be determined by the style of door you are making.  The cutters used on this door are shown at the right.  You can purchase the cutters from a variety of manufactures.  Mine are made by Freud, the Italian carbide company. The large red cutter is known as a 4 wing panel raiser.  The black cutters are a matched set, and are used to run the cope and stick cuts on the rails and stiles.  The stick cut is along the edge of the mullions, rails and stiles, and the cope cut is made on the end of the rails, and mullions.

Resulting joint

The cope and stick cutters shown in profile at the far left produce a very tight fitting joint.  When the stock is of identical thickness for both the stile and rail, the cutters run at the same spindle setting, and there is no need to adjust the spindle height.
