About myself, and the Rottweiler

My name is Diana Primiterra. I reside in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. As you can guess, my dogs are a huge part of my life. Some people wonder why a Rottweiler is my breed of choice. It is very unfortunate that so many people have such grave misconceptions of what this breed is all about. They are not the malicious killers that the media presents them to be. They are loving, loyal and protective of their families. They are a highly intelligent animal that will often challenge an inexperienced dog owner, or someone with subordinate traits. These dogs must never be chained and isolated away from human companionship.  I honestly wish that the media would mention that these dogs that have attacked innocent victims, due to the fact that their owners never spent the time to socialize and train their dogs. It is more then often the fault of the dog owners, and not the dog. Dogs are much like children in the sense that they need love and guidance in life to show them what is acceptable behaviour. This must be done gently, but firmly.  People whom think that a good beating will drive a point home, should never have any dog, let alone a Rottweiler. Any sort of abusive behaviour is unacceptable, especially when it is directed to innocent parties that do not know any better, such as children and animals. Sure, there are times when I want to just throttle my guys, but I just take a time out, and cool down before doing something that that I would deeply regret. Believe it or not, a Rottweiler is particularly sensitive, and will never forget a beating.

It is my mission in life to make sure that my dogs are behaving in an acceptable manner, and are prepared to deal with any situation that may arise. I take my dogs every where you can possibly imagine. I bring them to construction sites, hotels, busy bike paths, and parks full of both adults and children. I do not want my dogs to be isolated from what life is all about. They have faced children on bikes, roller blades, and skate boards passing by them, and they have learned not to chase them. We are mobbed by children during our walks, and I take the opportunity to teach these children how to deal with all dogs, since many do not understand that not all dogs are not gentle and well behaved like mine are. I have had neighbours children open my front door and walk right into my house. My dogs did not do a thing, since they seem to understand that children are not a potential danger to their home. My dogs live inside my home, and have a great deal of my time dedicated to them. They have gently licked the faces of children of all ages, comforted sick people, and put smiles on the faces of senior citizens. They have such a great sense of people that they always seem to be able to offer whatever comfort an individual is seeking. They have changed countless opinions of people whom feared and hated this breed, as well as giving them a sense of safety and security.

My dogs are my life, therefore I will never endanger them by not coming through with my duties and responsibilities that they require. Although I will never let my dogs down, I wish that other people would not buy a breed of dog like this, without researching and preparing for the commitment that they need. People that chain a Rottweiler in the back yard, and give it no proper socialization, make it hard for the people that love their dogs unconditionally. I can't tell you have many times I have cried over the endless rescue dogs that have been dumped in shelters, or have been found starving to death. There have been dogs that are crated while their owners have moved away, left behind to starve and wallow in their excrement. Their have been dogs chained to trees with no food or water, that try to sustain themselves by eating dirt. There are dogs that have been tied to back bumpers and are dragged until they die... or the rope breaks. There are dogs that have been doused in gasoline and lit on fire. There are dogs left in vacant houses, that have no choice but to eat their comrades that have succumbed to starvation. I can go on with these stories, but they nauseate me to the point of vomiting. I get sad about the ones that suffer and slowly fade away that never know the love of a human being. All a dog wants is to have somebody to love and care for them... I can't imagine all the ones that died without accomplishing what a dogs whole mission in life is to achieve. Perhaps take a look at my rescue page (still under construction), and see some of these stories yourself.

Please do go to my other dogs pages. You have to meet my newest addition, Diva , as well as my little old man Damian , and our rescue dog, Sable . As tragic as it is that I have lost my greatest friend and companion Sheena, life unfortunately has to go on. My heart breaks for Sheena everyday, but I do have a shimmering light at the end of the tunnel. That light is found in the dogs that are with me in the present. Please go to the links above and meet them.
