<>TITLE>The Tidepools of Southern California
The Tidepools of Southern California
Presented by Catherine Robinson, Student at National University

There's life in the tidepools. As a school project, I want to introduce you to the creatures that live within the tidepools, which are a nursery for the young as well as a lifelong habitat for others.

My research includes information from the books Seashore Life of Southern California written by Sam Hinton and Pacific Intertidal Life written by Ron Russo and Pam Olhausen.

The drawings included in this project are used from Ron Russo and Pam Olhausen's book Pacific Intertidal Life.

I want to acknowledge my husband, Steven P. Robinson, and friend, Brian Burkman, for their help in collecting photographs and talking to me about of some of the creatures that live and lurk within the tidepools.

The tidepools I visit most often are off the Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, California. I hope you enjoy this journey as I talk about and also picture some of the creatures within the tidepools.

Steve is pictured here holding a fine specimen of a shell.

When you visit the tidepools, remember to carefully walk about the area and gently handle the rocks. If you turn over rocks to look for animals and plants, be sure to place them back in the same spot you found them. Any animals left exposed to the air, sun, and predators can die. As we learn to carefully handle these delicate creatures, they'll live longer and we'll be able to enjoy learning about them and exploring their habitat in the intertidal zone.
