All photos in this section have been supplied by Sir Robin Campbell. He was a pilot of the Walrus aircraft on the HMS Rodney, and a friend of the ship's official photographer. He served aboard ship during the later part of the war.

Sir Robin Campbell.

One Of Sir Robin Campbell's Flight Logs

Sir Robin Campbell has provided a description of the following photographs :
Rodney has created a "slick" of smooth water by making a sharp turn. The walrus lands in the slick and the pilot manoevres the aircraft towards a point on the ships side. The boom is out together with a line for for a towed recovery. The Observer attaches the line to the aircraft which then drifts back so it is towed by the ship. Meanwhile the Air Gunner climbs up onto the wing and hooks onto the cable from the crane. The crane then lifts the aircraft and places it back on the catapault.
