INSTALLING/USING mIRC WITH AOL

It is assumed that you are using a PC compatible with Windows 95:

1. Go to "Ducky's mIRC Site." and download the most recent version of mIRC. Download the 16 bit version as the 32 bit version will not work with AOL30, the current operating system. I know, I tried! If you have upgraded your AOL to AOL for WIN95, the 32 bit version will probably work, I haven't tried it yet.

2. Install mIRC as a subdirectory of AOL. To do so, you must change the target directory on the first install screen to read:   c:\aol30\mirc

3. Once mIRC has been successfully installed, continue as follows:

a. Start AOL and wait for successful connection.

b. Click the start button and start mIRC over AOL.

c. A setup screen should appear. (If it doesn't, click the yellow folder in the toolbar.

d. Click Tab IRC Servers:
For NAME - type in your name
For e-mail address - your e-mail address ([email protected])
For Nickname - a nickname for use on mIRC.
For alternate - an alternate nickname for mIRC.
Click on "add"
For description - Chatnet
for IRC server - US.CHATNET.ORG
leave remainder as is
click ADD

e. Click LOCAL INFO tab
Clear LOCAL HOST and IP ADDRESS boxes. Leave blank.
"On connect always get" unmark boxes if they are marked.

f. Return to IRC Servers window.
Click block "Connect to IRC Server"

g. Upon connection you will get a second information box at the top; enter #ncvaden for channel to join
Click JOIN

You should be there.
