State Flag:

The State Flag displays the Zia Symbol

The center is a circle which means a house, a moon, or a sun. It also means perfect friendship and is the symbol of eternity because it is round and has no beginning and no end.

The sun has four rays on each side. Four is a magic number and it is said the wise men have known that four means:

the fours winds: east, west, north, and south
the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter
the four parts to each day: morning, noon, evening, and night
the four parts of each life: childhood, youth, manhood, and old age

Official Salute to the State Flag:

"I salute the flag of the State of New Mexico, the Zia symbol of perfect friendship among united cultures."

State Capitol: Santa Fe
State Fish: Cutthroat Trout
State Mammal: Black Bear
